ex: The second round of the World 250cc Motocross Championship Series was held on April 29 in Sillendorf, Austria, and Dutchman Gen-Jan Doorn (Suz) was the overall winner with 3-1 moto performances. All three will race Interceptor-based Superbike machines in the Formula One class. Georges Jobe (Kaw) won the April 29 Swiss 500cc World Motocross Championship Grand Prix in Payerene, Switzerland with 2-1 moto finishes. Finishing second overall was Andre Malherbe (Hon) with a 1-3. David Thorpe (Honl was third with 2-3 motofinishes. C8lifornian Danny LaPorte (Yaml finished eighth in the first moto, but failed to place in the second moto. After two 500cc rounds, Jobe and Kawasaki lead the point standings with 72, followed by Thorpe with 64. Kees van der Ven (KTM) won the third round of the 125cc World Motocross Championship Series which was held at Herentals, Belgium, on April 29. Van der Ven won both motos. Danny Strijbos (Hon) finished second overall with a 3-2 day, while Corrado Maddii (Cag) wa third with a 2-3 score. Van der Ven leads Strijbos in the point standings, 90 to 85. 2 Mark Hyde (Husl posted the best individual score in the April 27-29 opening round of the ISDE Qualifier Series in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. Hyde topped Fritz Kadlec (Husl, 3270 to 3345, after Jeff Fredette (Kaw) dropped from the lead to fifth when he had engine problems during the final MX test of the event. Hyde and Kadlec won the 125 and 250cc Intent classes, respectively. Wally Wilson (Husl won the 500cc Intent class with Larry Roeseler (Husl topping the 500cc four-stroke Intent riders. The Riverside County Board of Supervisors wiU meet on May 15 to consider the development and expansion of. as well as access to, DeAnza Cycle Park. The Prairie Dawgs M.e. will host the May 13 round of the AMA/Hi-Point National Hare Scrambles Championship Series in the California desert. Lucerne Valley is the site for the event, which will eecontestll1lts tackling a 22-mile loop five times. In addition to the desert regulars, Husky plans on sending eastern enduro/hare crambles stars.Mike Melton, Kevin Hine , Fritz Kadlec and possibly Ed Lojak, depending on how fast Lojak recovers from minor knee surgery. The fleet machines were timed at 157 mph through a radar trap on the long. long Bathurst straightaway; juding by rpm gained between the radar trap and the first corner, the bikes were topping 1 65 mph at the end of the straight. A Honda VF1000R finished second. Spokane, Washington's Ron Yamamoto rode a Honda CR480R-based machine to win the April 29 AMA TT Regional at Boise, Idaho. Yamamoto, who took the lead on the third lap, is the first rider in the more-than20-year history of the event to win the Expert class on a two-stroke. The 1983 winner, Frank Word III, [inished second on a Triumph twin, followed by Mickey Fay on a WoodRotax four-stroke single. The Junior class went to Honda-mounted Rod Reynolds. The Hilltoppers M.C. 10th annual Rosarito Beach 100 Grand Prix is slated for for May 13. As usual, the race begins and ends in Rosarito Beach, a Baja California seaside resort 15 miles south of Tijuana. The GP will be followed by a Pro race with a $2000 purse. The event will be sanctioned by the Southland Racing Association. For more details. call 213/428-4971. BMW has increased its Battle of the Twins point fund to $22,500. BMW riders be awarded points for BoTT class finishes, and the money will be distributed to the marque's top five riders at the end of the season. Husqvarna will send anybody who buys a new CR model to the Tony D Motocross school run by threetime 250cc National Champion Tony DiStefano. For an event of a diHerent flavor. check out the New Life Trailriders' May 5-6 spring ride. 11 covers 250 miles of northern California terrain in two days, with special ISDE-type test sections. It is a catered ride, with all meals, refreshments and gas along the marked course upplied for both days. Total co t for the adventure is 85, if entry is postmarked by April 25. The Forest Service has stepped up inspections of off-road vehicles for compliance with spark arrestor requirements in the Angeles National Forest. according to forest supervisor Paul Sweetland. Motorcycles, A TVs and modified vehicles operating off-road must have intact. approved spark arrestors. ORV operators without spark arrestors will not be allowed to ride in the National Forest or surrounding grass-covered areas. Violators could be subject to a citation and $75 fine, or an appearance in federal court. May, 1984, will be Motorcycle Awareness Month in the state of Washington. Look for Aldana's often outrageous comments on an occasional basis. Simpson announced that all of its helmets - both fiberglass and carbon fiber - have again passed the Snell 80 standards and are so certified. The fiberglass helmets had met Snell standards all along. but the first batch of carbon fiber models had what Simpson described as "curing flaws." and Snell certification was withdrawn. Those helmets were never released to the public. According to Simpson. a week of testing that ended on February 10, 1984, resulted in the certification by Snell of the full line. Bob Bagwell is hosting a 100-lap balf mile race and a Harley Owners Group Rallyon unday, May 13. in Dallas, Texas. There will be a field meet starting at 10 a.m. for everyone, and free refreshments from JO to I p.m. At one o'dock. the AMA Pro-Am dirt track race program starts. A regular program will run in conjunction with the big, 100-lap main event for the 500-75Occ bikes. One pit stop is required, and the winner will receive $1000 for his efforts. The AMA has begun fund-raising efforts for America's defense of its Motocross and Trophee des Nations titles. Colorful T-shirts are being sold for a contribution of $10 or more. The Motocross des Nations runs September 9 in Ruskeasanm, Finland, and the Trophee des Nations is slated for September 16 in Varberg, Sweden.
