Andy Mallhews, competing in the ame class as Pierce. was sixth at the stan, and he followed Pierce's ri e to run fourth, Smith's Husky teammate. Dan Ashcraft. ro'e from 11th to fifth ahead of Morales. A trio of 250cc Experts Breu Howell, Phil Gorgone and Derrick Paimenl - followed. Riders leadin~ their divisions included Tom Elias (C bike), McCabe (Amateur), Darryl Ellis (Vel), An Knapp (Senior) and Lori Farmer (Women). In the Novice race, Open rider Doug Broaddus had passed Pelli~rew for the overall lead. with the laller nOw running second. AfLer the second loop of 45 miles.
