During the first lap of the first moLO, a huge pile up occured that gave Suzuki pilot Tom Cosley the early lead followed by Merriam and Barba. Through a narrow sand wash, the leaders were handlebar-to-handlebar until a tight tuin that followed. The leader overshot the berm dropping LO third. Barba took command while Shever started to make a move. Riding brilliantly, Shever had control of the lead when the checkered flag appeared. Barba held on to second ahead of Cosley. Merriam roosted LO the front of the pack at the start of the second moLO, while Shever and KTM-mounted Ron Rosegard hounded the leader. Although Shrever couldn't reel in Merriam, the Yamaha pilot still managed LO capture the overall, while, with his second moLO win, Merriam finished second. Brian Alsobrook, piloting a Kawasaki, stole the show in the Mini Novice class after winning both motos with ease. AlLhough, at times, Alsobrook felt heavy pressure of Craig Mocam and Brian Raleigh, both armed with Kawasakis. Raleigh ended the day in the second spot with a 3-1 ride, while Mocam finished in third. Chereshkoff jams at Budweiser desert bash By Tom Griffith PALMDALE, CA, APR. 15 Darryl Chereshkoff captured the win after a couple of tough battle in the 250cc Junior class at American Motorcross Enterpri e's Budweiser-sponsored motocross event at L.A. County Raceway today. The 250cc juniors provided an exciting race as a rainbow of bikes buzzed into turn one. Burt Ulmer led the charge on his Yamaha followed by a pair of YZs, pair of CR and the Armendariz captures Sprocketts win By Clark Emery BAKERSFIELD, CA, APR. 15 Henry Armendariz put his uzuki into the winners circle after a tight battle in the 250cc Intermediate class in Continental Motorspon Club's motocross at Sprocketts Park. Yamaha-mounted Billy Noland and Honda pilot Tony eibeTl also had chance to win, but Armendariz managed LO pull it out with a 1-3 tally. Mike Hawks put his Yamaha into the front of the pack at the stan of the first moto, while Seibert and Noland followed close behind. During a rough whoop section, oland and eibert collided crashing to the ground. Both recovered in the last two positions. However, Seibert crashed again a half lap later dropping back to dead la t. While Seibert and oland were busy crashing, Armendariz snuck up to Hawks and di placed the leader shortly after. David Camarana also caught up to Hawks and the two started to dice over econd. During the white flag lap, Hawk began to slow a bit because of what looked like a flat tire. Honda-mounted Darin Layton also slipped by the crippled Yamaha-rider. Armendariz went on and took the win ahead of Layton, who managed to sneak by Camarana. late in the race. The econd moto was all Seibert·s. He stole the holeshot and was never threatened, while Noland LOwed along in second. But the real action of the moto took place when Armendariz flew by Layton over the doubles to claim third and the overall only 20 feet from the finish. In thecombined80-500cc ProcJas , it was Greg-Torgerson aboard a Yamaha who managed the win. Andy Ellis, riding Suzuki RM125, grabbed the early lead in first moLO and held on LO it throughout the.race. Torgerson took second btn not without a do-or-die pas for that position in a berm that put him off the track and into ttie f1agmarkers with one lap LO go. Yamaha-mounted Tim Winslow wa the victim of Torgerson's pass but finished third anyway. Mick Elsberry put in a fine ride by placing fourth on a YZSO. Unlike the fir t moto when Torgerson stalled it in the first turn and had LO come from behind to take second, had it much simpler in the second round leading from start to finish. Ellis sellled for second while Elsberry fini bed a close third. Results 50: 1. Cecil Jackson (Suz). 60 NOV: ,. Zak Crabb (Vam). 80 NOV: 1. Brian Walker (Vam); 2. Phillip Glen (Kew). 80 JR: 1. Wall wails on Novices at DeAnza By Michael Gillies SUNNYMEAD, CA, APR. 15 Honda of Pomona's Greg Wall motored to back-to-back wins today in DeAnza' 125ccNovice class. It was no cakewalk though, as Honda-mounted Henry Villoch gave wall a run for his money in the second moLO by leading for most of the race, but a spill late in the moto allowed Wall LO cmi e through the ch ckers first each time out. Wall staned the day in good form by blasting to an early lead in the first moto with Rincon Kawasaki's john Holms and A + L's Don Marrolli (Suz) fighting over second. Kawasaki-mounted Daryn Walls and BTS Oil's Tracy Laye (Yam) were trailing, but by the end of the first lap Walls left Laye behind to reel in Marrolli and Holms and eventually pass them. Wall continued to lead, riding a smooth, controlled race. Villoch entered this moto on the second lap for unknown reasons but was making up for it by pres uring Wall heavily throughout the race. So, the checkered flag saw Wall first, Walls second, and Holms a di tant third. Villoch screamed his Honda to a second moto holeshot with Wall and Walls trailing. Pete's Racing's Richard VanDeranden (Hon), Marrolli and Mike Laquerre (Cag) were in a three-way dice for fourth. Wall held on to Villoch with no problems but couldn't seem to find a line around, him. On the sixth lap Villoch crashed, dropping him to third behind Walls. Wall rode out the remaining laps in first LO clinch the overall win, Walls was second with his consistant 2-2, while. Marrolli earned third 'with a 6-4. 125 Intermediate action was hot today, and Suzuki of Riverside's Kevin Montgomery provided more than his
