weighted GPz550s - after holding off the charges of rider Dale Quarterley. The race started at dusk and fading light was a definite factor in the race. On the sixth lap of the eight-lap event Quarterley hit a hole in the track in the esses and ran off the track, bareley missed a beat and got back on Roloff's tail. On the very next lap third place holder jim Vreeke went off the track in the same spot but got back on and was able to stay in third. Vreeke came from the back of the pack after a poor start and diced with Dave Busby before securing third place. Busby was fourth and john Bettencourt fifth ahead of Chris Steward, Frank Mazur and Roberto Pietri. Flemingand Doherty dominate Amateur events GOGGLES & ROLL OFFS By Lori Tyson RIVERSIDE, CA, APR. 14-15 Champion Motorcycles' Lee Fleming and Bassani-sponsored Denny Doherty were the big winners in the amateur finals at the Budweiser Superbike Weekend at Riverside International Raceway, each taking two wins apiece. In the Stock Production race 600ccmounted Fleming took on a 750cc Mike Carrell for the overall lead, wi th Carrell getti ng the advan'tage in the straights, but Fleming closing ground in the comers. Shawn Leipold and his 750 joined the battle on the sixth of 10 laps, but in the end Carrell was the victor, followed by Leipold and 600cc winner Fleming, piloting a new GPz 550. Fleming had an easier time of it in the Modified Production race as he took his 750cc Honda Interceptor toa f1ag-to-f1ag lead. Burke Steed was lonely in second after challenger Sadowski, who didn't officially sign up for. the race, was black-flagged to the sidelines. james Stephens took third overall/first in the 450cc class after a race with 600 class john Penner, who also won his class. Denny Doherty and his 1200cc Kawasaki Superbike passed Steve Biganski's TZ250 for the combined Formula class event win, taking the lead on the eighth of 10 laps. But Biganski beat jay Tanner (mounted on a 750cc Suzuki Superbike) for second overall and first in Formula 3.
