Hadlock hauls at Winnemucca MX By Wretched Racer WINNEMUCCA, NV, MAR. 11 Allan Berlutti brought his Kawa:saki all the way out to the eastern edge of District 36 to check out the top quality competition at the Flying W's Spring MX Series. This was the second of the three-race series where Robbie Hadlock has been asserting his dominance of the northern Nevada motocross scene. After some really fine racing, Berlutti did the deed by winningthecombined 25OcdOpen Expert class, leaving Hadlock the second overall slot. For this race, the Calder Cycle Park was ready for the top Pros and anybody else ready to ride. Beautiful weather, good dirt, and a rough, challenging layout was ready for the second consecutive club record turnout of 143 riders. In the first moto of the 250cclOpen Experts, Berlutti got his holeshot and led the first lap, but Hadlock got by to lead for the rest of the mota and win the race. Berlutti came up second and Jeff Cloutier (Kaw) was third. Berlutti pulled a magnificent start in moto two, carrying the front wheel in the air to the first turn, and shutting the door on Hadlock. Berlutti held on to that early lead all the way to the checkered flag, and his 2-1 score was good enough for the overall. Hadlock fell a couple of times trying to.catch up, and finally came in third after Cloutier squeezed by into second. Hadlock's 1-3 netted him second overall and Cloutier's 3-2 was good for third. Riding Hondas out of Carson Cycle Center, Hadlock salvaged his winning streak by victory in both 125cc .Expert motos. Hadlock went wire-towire in Mota One. Mark Hall (Yam), a 125cc ace from Boise, led the first three laps of mota two, but ultimately had to give way to Hadlock when he stalled his machine. When Hall's bike quit, Hadlock collided with him, and they both went down. Both recovered quickly, but Hadlock was quickest. Hall's 3-2 was good for second overall and another tough contender, Jeff Clutier, scored 2-3 for '. his second, third-overall of the day. Results ~ .al!Rl~ ·60 NOV; 1. T. McMaster (Kaw); 2. T. The first event of the day began at 8:30 a.m. Four rows of N'ovices, totalling 191, LOok LO the course, with twominute intervals between the waves of riders. The three-hour race covered a 15-mile course that took riders over a variety of terrain. At the completion of the Novice classes of racing, the winning riders were Loren Turner (200cc), Mike Brumitt (25Occ), David Welch (Open), Sid Schuetz (Vets), and Old Timer Daryl Hall. At the Amateur/Expert start, Mike Harper got the holeshot, followed by McKenna and Randy Lash. Harper held the number one position until McKenna made his move and took the lead, at about four miles out. By tbe start of lap five, McKenna had stretched his lead to just over two minutes. It was obviously his lucky day because when McKenna's Honda' ran outoffuel, hewasjust yards from his pit area. He pushed the bike at running speed to the pit. After gassing it up· he left, retaining a 10second' lead over Lash and Halcomb, which he held to the finish. .'
