Now riding I25cc and 250cc Pro·class machines, Ellis moved steadily from the Mini classes of just a few short years ago. Kent Shepard, Gilbert Zavala and Joe Whiteley received ovations for their determined riding this past sea· son finishing one, two, three in the Veteran Jr. class. Even though all present wanted to know about She· pard's nickname, "Fifi" would only smile. "Wild" Willie Surratt marched forward to accept his award as the number one Mini Pro rider of the year but left no one wondering about his move to the l25cc bikes. Kenny Zahrt was presented with the number·one plate and trophy for the 250cc Pros. Racing out of the country with his sponsor, O'Neal Products, Jon Ortner was not present, but will carry number one in the 125cc Pro ranks wi th his impressive finish in 1983.
