da- Northern California-Norther" N'e'vadil-Oregon-Washington-ldaho-Utah_AI SEE DAYTONA ON T.V. this time out. Again, a big lead enabled the Yamaha rider to hold on for the win and the overall. Vohland started the moto in second, but HiPoint teammate Coupe passed on lap three and finished second for second overall. Vohland held off Heiberger's laTe charge for third and got third over-·: all, while Heiberger's twin fourths were good for fourth overall. Dashiel .look fifth overall for his two fifths. Cantaloupi had little problem in securing both moto wins in the ProAm Trailers 500cc Pro class as he led from start to finish each time out. Only Dave Coupe looked to be a threat as he began to close in at the end of the second moto. Bashing hard into a berm with a lap to go, Coupe's big bore CR juSt plain died. Dave was sure he was out of gas but tugging the fuel line from the carb disproved that theory. Coupe did, however, let the gas flow freely for a few moments so everyone present could see he didn't ,lose.. out by not checking his fuel level. It's one thing to lose; and a whole lot worse when you are so embarrassed that you're turning Honda red! The problem turned out to be a fried ignition, and Coupe was close enough to the finish area that he was a.le to push to last. Cantaloupi had his third overall win for the day while Hi-PointiEuro Cycles M Star-mounted Randy Losh secured second overall with a 3-2 score. Bill Jamerson rode his Suzuki to third overall with two fourths. Results OPEN PRO: 1. Donnie Contaloupi (Yam); 2. Randy Lash (MS~ 250 PRO: 1. Donnia Cantaloupi (Ylm); 2. Dave Coupe (Han). 125 PRO: 1. Hall, Christian bag Woodland MX wins By Brian Barnes WOODLAND, WA, FEB. 18 Woodland's winter track seems to be the hot ticket as far as Northwest winter racing goes this season, as yet another big turnout of participants showed up to do battle this Saturday. Today's professional wins went to a pair of Honda riders; Eric Hall (Beaverton Honda-support/Sun Products/Marushin) scored both the 125cc and 250cc wins with John Christian Jr. (Totem Lake Honda/ Hi-Point) taking a well deserved Open Pro win via two firsts. The 125 class found Hall once again taking a double moto sweep, but behind him, some hot anion ensued. Pro caliber KTM rider Jeff Cropper, and Highland Hondal P.B.I. 's David Froembling put in a pairof fine rides with Cropper able to hold o££ Froembling in the first round. The second moto was another matter though as Froembling put his CR behind Hall in the 'second spot, on the start. Froembling seemed to have the number two spot under control, but Cropper was on the gas and on lap seven, got past. The final three laps turned out to be a great race between the two, as both Cropper and Froembling rode to the limit. Froemblingcameawaywith the runner-up position after an exciting bump-and-run battle on the final lap with Cropper. N.W. Yamaha's Mike Williams and Steve Oster rounded out the top five_ The 250cc class found 16 riders lined up for the start of moto number one. When they left the line, it was Arne "Holeshot" Hettman, KTM's Scott Tyler and now Yahama-mounted "Disco" Rob Burkhart in the lead. Tyler moved into the first spot during the first lap but D.G.lMarushin/Honda-supported Robb Manning was on the warpath in second, and by lap three had gained the lead. Hall was also on the gas and by the halfway mark the top five were set. Manning's strong ride took the win while Hall and Tyler took the second and third spots. Burkhart put in an excellent moLO for fourth with Froembling taking fifth. The second round found Hall and Hellman dueling for the lead at the start, with Tyler, Yamaha-support Doug Lange and Honda-support Mike Larson following. Hall put his Bill Fernandez-tuned ride into the lead by the end of lap one while Hettman hung on in second. Hall put distance between himself and the rest of the field quickly and by the midway mark, was clearly in command. Manning had worked himself up [rom a sub-par start and now followed Hall in second with Lange, Larson and Steve Oster the next three in line. Hall went on to win the race comfortably over Manning with Lange, Larson, Oster and Hettrnan rounding out the top six. • Results PEE weE A: 1. Jason McCormick (Kaw); 2. Justin Stanning (Kaw).
