Ronnie Jones avoided a last lap pileup
which scrambled traffic behind him and
cruised to victory in the fourth and final
round of the Great American Shoot-out

'Indoor Short Track Series.
Jones led the final from the
start aboard his Megacycle
Cams/Motorcycle Supply/
Knight/Shod-sponsored Kawasaki
with Terry Poovey, aboard his Dallas
Honda/Shoei-sponsored Honda,
taking second.
The cancellation of the final series
round by series organizer Mike Kidd
ended Jones' hopes of catching Poo-
vey in the title chase and handed the
crown to Poovey by a nine point
margin, 86 to 75.
First on the agenda for the polished concrete on the floor of the
Philadelphia Civic Center was time
trials to determine starting positions
for seven scratch heats. The top qUillifying time of 8.85 seconds went to
Eastern Regional Expert Champion,
Eric Rausch with Rodney Farris and
Garth Brow just behind.
Scratch heat wins went to Rausch,
Lew Woods, Poovey, Steve Burkholder, George Richtmeyer, Jones
and Chuck Springsteen.
