A slrong lurnoul of riders faced even suonger winds throughout the day. An easy loop enabled riders to concenuate more on the sections. The Beginners and ovices had an easy event compared to the much harder section the Amateurs and ExpeTls faced. Section five had the ExpeTls and Amateurs riding the same line. Rid· ers emered through some sand to a left tum up a mall rock face, then they approached a three·foot rock ledge followed by a sharp right up a an eight· inch rock ledge. There was EllIe room £orenor once they climbed lhe three-fooL ledge. A drop 0[[, a couple of rocks, lhen a very steep descent down a len-foot rock slab to the section end. Even the best of the ExpeTls dropped poims in this section. Cagiva- ponspored Mike Lauxen continues to be the man to beat in the Expert cia s. Lauxen dropped 46 poinlS wilh 7 clean to OUl-score his closest competitor. Mall Pritchard (SWM) used hi european experience to place second wilh 52 dab. Mark Oldar (Bul) was third. five poims back from Pritchard. David Webster (SWM) used consi tem riding to score fourth over Mark Eggar (SWM). Eggar was moumed on Bernie hreiber's ex-fanory bike. mall riders on small machines ruled in the ovices. Billy Humeron a TY 175 carded the be t core to win his first Novice event. Katy Feland on a Famic 200 proved that a small, agile bike is sometimes beller than a big and powerful one, on her way to a second-place finish. Chri Butler (Bul) found the edge he needed to beat brother Clyde (Mon) by 4 poims lO take third. Only three poims separated the top three and was the closest poims spread of the day. Burbank Yamaha's Boyd Bernard (SWM) easily won the enior Novice division. Seven poims back for second was Mick Vanaman (Yam). Bob Schlaller (Bul) rounded out the top three. . Results EX: 1.
