successful in Natio.nal go-kart racing. I did pretty well myself. My mother gives full support in this racing game also. She wouldn't let me race motocross when I was growing up. She thought' it was too dangerous. Having my family and my girl friend, Donna, behind me has definitely helped. Joe Morel, owner of Morel's Husqvarna in North Attleboro, Massachusetts, has provided me with both mechanical and technical assistance throughou t the past season. I also received some assistance from Husqvarna. My {ather has helped me make it this far, but I really think having factory sponsorship may be critical in winning a National title. If you're factory supported you would be at a technical advantage - and you get some cool stickers and your name on your jersey for free. National Enduros: At National Enduros, it's not always the best rider that wins - it's a combination of timekeeping skills, riding ability and luck. Riders who have been competing on the circuit for several years seem to . have an advantage by knowing club members and what LO expect as far as terrain. I'm a newcomer LO the National Enduro scene. Timekeeping is my major downfall. You can't get away with burning checks and still win the title. I feel my fourth overall finish last season is nothing to boast about. The way I look at it, it's better than fifth and not as gQ9d as third. Natianal Hare Scrambles: The ationa I Hare Scrambles are the best test of a rider's ability. You go out and do a three-hour moLO and the best rider wins, barring mechanical difficulties. I like the idea of all the riders starting together, unlike an enduro with riders leaving minutes apart. It's so much more fun racing in close·competition. I respect Eddie Lojak's riding ability and enjoy racing against him. Eddie's pit crew and mine work together when Eddie and I compete against each other. We are still friends at the end of the day. I'm really looking forward to the '84 National Hare Scrambles Series. Last year, I won the 500cc chiss title, and this year I wam the overall title! ISDE Qualifiers: I think the threeday Qualifiers will be a better test of a rider's speed and ability to maintain his machine than the one- and twoday events. ISDE: I really enjoy riding Six Days. I plan on riding it as long as I can still qualify. It is the only event in which riders from all over the world have a chance to compare their skills against one another. . In Wales I had some misfortunes, but I put that behind me and think of it as learning experience. With two bronze medals LO my credit, my results have not been overly impressive, but I hope better results will come with time and experience. Favorite event: The Blackwater 100. I love riding in mud and rocks, but I can do without so much water. I also enjoy riding fun events like NETRA andSE8cTRAenduros. There isn't as much pressure and I can just have fun with my buddies. Most respected rival: Eddie Lojak. Future: Over the past two years I have gained much experience. I hope to put it all together this season and show some posit.ive results. I really don't know of any rider on the National circuit with only two years o{experience who has achieved really good res uIts. I hope I'm not setting my goals too high and spreading myself too thin trying to run all the ational Enduros, Hare' Scrambles and Qualifiers, but I want it all! _ 'More thunder ~ Morelightening! 0') ....... A storm is about to engulf the motocross tracks of America. And can-Am
