TEN YEARS AGO Bryar Holcomb pronounced his domination of a CMC Carlsbad motocross with a panish accent, winning the 250 and 500cc Pro classes on a pair of BulLa 0 . Randy Myers rode a similar machine to econd in the 250s, while 500cc runner-up Billy Clements was on a Husky. In the I25cc Pros, Honda rider Marty Smith took the gold over Dave Eropkin (Hon). DESERT. Out in the desert, Mark Adent took his second-straight overall D-37 desert win. Second overall after spending the early part of the year gelling the bugs worked out of a new Honda ride, was Tom Brooks. Third overall went to another 250cc classer, Jim Wotring. The Garden Grove Unified School District co-sponsored a high school motocross event at Orange County International Raceway that drew contestants from seven chools. In the end, Santiago High chool won the event with 131 points. Yamaha pilot Bob Endicott took both the 250 and 350cc GP classes at an AFM road raceat Riverside Raceway. The 50cc GP event went to Ital-Jet rider Eddie Lawson. \ The Mowry Mountain 100 Enduro, one of the toughest events in the state of Arizona, went to Yamaha rider Dave Wood. Wood compiled a score of 35, eight points better than that of Open-class winner Curtis Lahring (Kaw); Bottlenecks caused most of the 700 riders in the Sawmill Enduro in northern California to hour out, but overall winner Ben Bower only dropped 17 point on his Husky. Barney Newman was thwarted in his bid to sweep through the Expert classes of a Bend, Oregon, motocross. Newman won the I25cc Expert class on a Penton, then took the first two Open Expert motos on a Montesa. However, in the final Open moto, his bike proved rei uctant to start and he dropped to second overall behind Randy Limbeck (Hon). Riding a 250 Cl. Lee Sche(fers was the overall winner of a hare scrambles hosted by the CRe. Second overall went to another 250 c rider, Yamaha pilot Jamie Avels. A R.A.e.E. motocross at Corona Raceway was the sene of a 125cc Novice win by Bultaco rider Todd Breker. George Forte took the runnerup spot in that class, with Doug Lincoln finishing third. A TRA motocross in Eugene, Oregon, featured a Momesa sandwich of the 250cc Expert clas . Steve Williams was the winner on one of the Spanish machines, and keet Hise placed second on another.
