Double SeettIe Amateur winner Scott Meyers leads fellow Idaho rider Mark Hall in the 125cc A class. Meyers also won the 85cc (14-151 class. Smith, Meyers master Seattle Amateur Supercross .. By Brian Barnes SEATTLE, WA, FEB. 11-12 The second round of the 1984 Amateur Supercross Series was held in Seattle's Kingdome with some 400 riders from all over the Northwest taking part in the two-day affair. This year's race was somewhat different from past years with all the qualifying being run on Saturday morning and finals 24 Sunday evening. Superspons' Bill West and Hi-Tec Motocross Productions' Lynn Howland promoted and directed the race, which went off like clockwork. The hotly contested Expen classes found Butch Smith, on a Team Green-supported ride, taking both the Pee Wee Expen and 85cc 7·11 classes. Idaho Yamaha Suppon rider Scou Myers put in two oULStanding rides LO claim the 80 and 125cc A classes, while Burien Honda's Lance Richoue rocketed his way past the 250cc A class and Honda-mounted John Christian Jr. took his third consecutive Kingdome Open A win. Washington State Champions were also crowned at the two-day event with five riders from 85cc (13-14), 85cc(14-15), 125, 250 and Open Expert classes taking part in special races prior LO the Pro mains. Team Green riders took the Mini classes on Saturday night with Larry Ward taking the 12-13 class after an all-oUl battle against Scott Meyers, and Oregon's Paul Winn taking the measure of the 14-15 ranks. On Sunday afternoon three Honda riders - Mike Jorgenson from Canada, RichoLte and Washington's Ron Wallace - scored Championshjps in the 125, 250cc and Open classes respectively, and also entered themselves in the National Amateur finals later this year. Smith staned the Sunday finals by knocking off the Pee-Wee 7-11 class. After Rod Stanley holeshot and led the first lap, Smith took over and was soon long gone. Stanley seemed to have the second spot sewed up but on lap five a problem dropped him back and allowed Butch Smith to take the runner-up spot. Ryan Huffman and Mike Hurst were third and fourth. Smith's second win was scored in the 85cc (7-11) class as he led start to finish over Stanley and hard-charging Kawasaki rider Justin Stanning. Scou Meyers was a very determined young man. He had put in two runner-up effons LO Ward and Jorgenson during the Washington State Championships and was out LO change that during Sunday's finals. In the 85cc (14-15) class, Meyers avenged his loss to Ward by taking the holeshot and the win. Ward moved up from a sixth-place start to score second while Kawasaki-mounted Oren Bray was third. Meyers did the same in the I 25cc A class but this time had to contend with pressure from several other riders. Both Meyers and Montana's Jay Mimyala won their respective qualifying heat Saturday morning and when the riders headed ror turn one Meyers and fellow Idahoan Mark Hall were up from, followed by Mintyala and Mike Enderson. Meyers had no imemions of giving up his lead and held off both Hall and Mintyala for the emire race to take another well-deserved win. Kris Komamitsky, Chaun McCallister and Aaron Shardel man rounded out the top six. The 250cc A cia s was basicailly a one-man show as newly crowned state champ Richolle reeled orr another Start-to-rinish win. Yamahamounted SCOll Williams was someways back ror second with Don Halvorson, Ron ShaH and Canada's Danny Bullock, all on Honda's, in the next three spots. The 250cc B class was a baLtle between two Canadian riders, Jason Webb and Ted McDowall. Webb holeshot and led for two laps, but by the start of the third lap McDowall had put his RM in front and stayed there ror good. Webb, Lynn Mimyala and Joel Huskey were 2-3-4. Coming imo this year's Kingdome evemChristian had taken Open wins the two previous years and was not about to let his string break. Christian had nothing to worry about though as he and his CR demolished the competition. Idaho's Brent Richardson put in a strong ride to take the runner-up position while Jay Bouffard, John Evoy and Dave Roestel rounded out the top five. The Open B race round Randy Messer, Tony Devino and Ron Rumbolz up front as the pack rounded turn one, but, as the moLO wound into its CifJallaps, Al Carstenson had manuevered his way into the lead and stayed in the top spot for the remainder of the race. Messer. Devino and Rumbolz were second through fourth. TheOver-The-Hill class found Yamaha-moumed Tim Sullivan in a familiar spot as he took the lead over Tom Lansford on the start. Sullivan was clearly the one in control and took the wi n ahead of Carl Marcham. Lansford and Honda rider Jeff Chikusa. Gordon Ochs was the man of the hour in the Old Timers class. taking the win while Bob White and Idaho's Bob Krah dueled the whole race LO take second and third. Results PEE WEE (7-111: 1.
