Burdette stormed back to catch Warren with a lap to spare and finished second. "Some guy crashed in front of me," said Burdette. "It's hard to catch up when you're not used to this sand." Reinholt, on a Honda of Orlando CR250, simply rode off and left the [ield in the opening 250cc moto. Dave Hollis, Wendell Simmons, Kevin Foley, Denny Bentley and jo jo Keller scratched for second. Keller had a shot at Hollis, but his Honda sputtered and he was forced out. "It sounds like theelectrics," said Keller. Reinholt won over Hollis. It was Hi-Point/Honda of Orlandosponsored Collins who passed leader Coombs and paced the second moto, with Reinholt, Knupp and Keith Crawford following. Collins put in his best series ride to hold off Reinholt and then Murphy for 10 laps. Murphy closed on Collins, then pulled by for the win. "I've got the bike dialed in" said Murphy, "I can deal with 'em anywhere except in that tough pond loop." Collins finished second, after he had sustained a back injury in moto one.
