With three laps to go, it was Bozanh, White and Cropper in the LOp three, positions that would hold on 10 the nag. Mota two aw Bozarth and White fighting for the lead and the overall. The duo swapped positions during the eleven-lap race with Toreson running third ahead of a pa"ck consisting of Russell, who one lap later appeared in econd behind Bozarth. Jeff Martin, Mike Harwood and Chad Klingbeil made upa mid-pack ballle, but it was Bozarth that was well on his way to a dou ble-moto bli lZ as Whi te picked 0[£ the riders he lost positions to and pressured in second, butLO no avail. Cropper once again finished third, which was good for the l25cc laurels with fourth to Harwood, who made valiant allempts at picking off 250s and Open mad1inery. Bozanh put two superior rides LOgether to nab the biggest paycheck of the day over White's 2-2, Russell's 3-3 and Manin, who posted a 4-4. Little Ryan Huffman continues to plague the Pee Wee's on his YamahaHonda of Roseburg/Huffman/ Wright-logging Yamaha. This time Huffman faced stiff competition of Brell Holm. Holm snatched the first maIO win from Huffman, who came bouncing back in the second round to garnish the overall and keep a stranglehold on his impressive winningstreak in southern Oregon. Holm captured second overall with Cory Anderson grabbing third with 3-3 finishes on a Kawasaki. Results '25 PRO: , . Jeff Cropper (KTM); 2. Mike Harwood (Hon); 3. Chad Klingbeil (Kaw). . 250 PRO: 1. By Brian Barnes KE T, WA, JAN. 29 The 1984 Kingdome qualifier series made its last stop this weekend at Seattle International Raceway with over 350 riders attending the race on what turned out to be a perfect day. The l25cc class was once again Hall's by virtue of his two-maLO sweep capping 0[£ a perfect series record six for six. Roger Stanlev· Wright in Flight at Albany SX By Clay & Suanne Light ALBANY, OR, JAN. 22 Northern Oregon was hil by a destructive blow in the form of Idaho Speedsler Joe Wright, who blew the lids off of two Pro classes at Albany's Supercross, winning the 250cc and Open Pro contests with ease! Honda-mounted Mike Harwood won an exciting I 25cc Pro/Intermediate swapfest and out-dueled rival Tod Anderson (Suz), who went 2-2 on the soupy course, much thanks to overnight heavy rains. The combined Intermediates didn't let up, led by Kawasaki-rider Cory Barton, who ruled moto one, beating up-andcoming Mark Spooner and Ron Robinson to the checkered f1ag_ Mota two had Spooner get the handle on things after BarLOn took an early detour and was never challenged, Robinson LOok second and Ian Christie third. Wright (Honda of CaldwelllWright Construction/Han) was in flight in the 250 c Pro class £rom start to finish and looked superb in the sand. Wright, Kevin White (Han), Harry Reed and Billy Holtman led the field into oupy turn one, but after that he gOt an aHtoo distant view of a rider most of us had heard of but seen lillIe. Wright put on quite a show, taking the win over White and Holtman, who was on a 125. MaLO two was again all Wright on his new Honda from the snap of the gate to the flag. The only rider LO stay on the same lap was White, some one-eighth "1'/ '., '. ; l •• I I ) 1', I lap behind. Holtman rode the wheels off his 125 to finish third. The Open Pro/Intermediate race was the class show of the Superbowl Sunday's program. Wright'S 500cc Honda smoked into the lead with Richard Earle, Mike Holbrook, Mark Spooner and Bryan Reader in LOW. The lead never changed, as Wright was let off the hook when Earle bailed off and had a good half lap lead and pulling away. Earle d.id manage LO boot his machine LO life and close the gap with Holbrook's Husky taking third and getting the Intermediate win over Bryan Reader and Gary Bever. Second moto had Wright get the early jump over Earle, Holtman, Holbrook and Reader. Wright poured it on, cleaning the double jump with ease while Earle crashed in the arne place and let Holtman go by. The bauJewas intense for the Intermediate overall, that is until Holbrook took a soil sample which gave Reader the lead until he tOO bailed off, which opened up the door for Bever, who was to get nabbed in the later stages by Reader, who carded a 2-1 for the overall. Wright smoked both 250cc and Open outings with smooth riding to grab top payoffs over Earle 2-2 and Holtman's 3-3. Results OPEN PRO: ,. Joe Wright (Hon); 2. Richard Earle (Hon); 3. Dillon aces Caldwell indoor ST By Marty Gregory CALDWELL, 10, JAN. 21 Desert racer Ron Dillon grabbed lhe holeshot and lh~n screeched his 250 KTM around Caldwell's indoor short track to win lhe 250cc Expert main ahead of a crazed pack of man y-hungry riders. Among the hungry were Arney Wick, Kelly Perkins and Jerry Moore who were all three dicing furiously for second and a chance to challenge Dillon. Moore crashed his way out of contention and Wick used his National Expert savvy LO hold off the determined. Perkins. (1 I J )win, was impresDillon's j J j ., ~ ' l 'j sive and it appeared his Dillon Cycle-sponsored KTM water-pumper had power on the other bikes. Still, Ron paid a price. ''I'm really tired'" was his comment while pushing the bike LOwards his pit following the main. Ron didn't have to conserve his energy for a "second loop" like he normally would in a desert race, and he let it all hang out for a popular win in his hometown. Jerry Moore, another Caldwellite, had his moment in the Open Expert fray and thoroughly enjoyed wheeling across the finish line in first place. Rodney Reynolds did a solid job to grab second in that race after Arney Wick fell. Moore, Reynolds and Wick were all mounted on cusLOm-framed Honda 500s_ Winding up in third in the Open Expert main was OMC points champ Ricky Henson, who has been winning the class (until this week) on the Fred Johnston Yamalla 600. Not going for dollars; but the night'S youngest double winner, James Cyr, proved last time's win against older boys (Cyr is 10) in the 80cc Mini B class was no fluke. Cyr worked his way right to the from and held off charges by Jon Irby and Mike Harris to put his Suzuki track machine inLO the winner's circle. Earlier in the evening, Cyr rode a KX60 to a win in the Micro Class over hard-charging Richie Reynolds. Terry Anderson scored wins in the 250 and Open B events...as usual. Terry rides a Bultaco-framed Suzuki which is the hot setup indoor track in the 250cc class, and is making his "Murray-san" Honda work against the Open bikes. Giving Anderson a tussle in the 250cc race was Owyhee Club PR guy Lary Cowles, who, in turn, was being tussled by Cun Dice on a pipey, white Husky. The mercury was hanging around zero outside and, with the doors open to help the ventillating fans, it wasn't much warmer insideon race night in Idaho_ The stands were still packed with screaming fans, though, and the action continues on Caldwell's getting-more-famous-all-the-time indoor short track.
