Casey, Castro clean up at SHRMX By Sally Sideliner BRENTWOOD, CA, JAN. 22 Kimo Casey, aboard a Contra Costa Honda-sponsored Kawasaki, holeshot the I25cc Pros at Sand Hill Ranch today and - 26 held the lead through all 10 laps. Wille Miller's Suzuki gave Casey some pressure but Miller was never quite able to make the pass. Miller did grab the lead in moto two with Casey in hot pursuit. Casey tried for a downhill pass but Miller beat him to the turn. However, on the second lap, at the same downhill, Casey tried again and succeeded, taking the first overall for the second week in a row. Casey turned right around and holeshot moto one of the 250cc Pro class on another Contra Costa Honda Kawasaki. Danny Castro's Yamaha hung close behind and on lap three zapped Casey on a wide sweeping uphill. Casey stuck like glue as the two moved away from the pack. Rich My then, on a Skip's Two-Wheeler Suzuki, put it into high gear and began to close on the leaders. My then lost his chain on lap five giving George Hopper the number three spot. Casey slid out on a right hand turn, allowing Hopper to close the gap but not enough to get by. Hopper made a pass in the backstretch and Casey cut under to regain his number two position at the checker. Casey's holeshot in moto two was short-lived as Castro passed him on the first lap to get an early lead. My then brought his Suzuki into contention and with Hopper's Honda, all four dueled for the lead, but Castro held on for the. win and the overall. David Woodall led the Open Pro class for several laps but soon found the Hondas of Hopper and Darrick Luchessi sailing by for the first and second places. Luchessi pulled a nice start across the gate in moto two but Hopper managed to stick to his rear fender as the two put quite some distance on the pack. Hopper finally found a way, around Luchessi, only to lose compression on the downhill and pull off. Luchessis 2-1 tally gave him the overall win. Results 125 PRO: 1. Kimo Casey IKaw); 2. Lange, Hall score at Horn Rapids 'Dome qualifier By Brian .Barnes RICHLAND, WA,lAN. 15 Under clear skies, 200 riders battled 30-degree temperatures and a semi·frozen racing surface in this weekend's first Kingdome qualifier held at Horn Rapids OR V Park. The first moto of 250cc action found Airway Heights Yamaha rider Gary Kuest, KTM-mounted Scott Tyler, Hall and Lange up front as the pack headed around turn one. New put in a great race to take second, with Ostriem, Froembling, Ron Pomeroy and Kuest rounding out the top six. The second race found Kuest taking a nice holeshot ahead of Lange. Pomeroy, Hall and Kawasaki-mounted Marvin Waldo, but Hall picked 0(( the top two riders and was on his way to the second-moto win. The next six spots were up in the air until the finish flag dropped, with Lange, Pomeroy and Waldo third, fourth and fifth, while Kuest, Suzuki pilot Danny Diesso and Froemling were five through seven. The 125cc class belonged to Hall both motos, but some strong performances were turned in the next three overall spots.
