DE C. 4 Nineteen-year-old enduro ace Bill Fu llmer Jr. posted the best score a t th e California Raci ng Club' s Duralube -spon sored Santa Claus en d u ro . Fullmer ( 1.137) just d id beat o u t second-place finished Ri ck Daniel, wi th a differen ce of o n lv 10 secon ds. th e o n lv two scores in th e one-point range: Only three o ther riders pl aced in th e twos: Kurt Butler . Scott Sampson and Mark Cook . Needl ess to say, th e even t was a very fast co u rse. Damian Stevens (1.42) took th e overa ll for one -loopers, riding in th e IOOcc C under 16 class. H e bea t Bill y Huston ( 1.53) and Scott J a cobsen (1.59). The start of bo th loops began on th e north sect ion o r Anderson (Sem i) Dr y Lake with th e fir st loop blasting for a good 30 mil es. The speeds were rel atively easy. exce p t for th e special test. Staying o n time up to th e o bservation chec k wa s tri cky and then being dropped into a 30m p h section ca used th e lost p oints. The course led directly into a mass of moon rocks with very tight switchback turns ending at th e tie-breaker check. After leaving the check th e speed still rema in ed 30 for some fast cross country raci ng wi th a well-deserved reset to get the straglers bac k o n time. Win ding up th e loo p was th e best part of the course. The riders experience d a bit of "S upercross" berm s for about ha lf a mi le that were fantastic, ru n ning right into th e fin a l check for th e loo p . a tie-breaker. Stevens' score was one of seven riders in the one's. Stevens was fo llowed by Huston, J acobsen . Scott Bristol, Dunn Voyer . Rob Peters and Mike Chamberlain Jr. Sa nd y Bak kila was th e best woman finisher (3. 134). Loo p two headed directly east with a n o the r little tri ck. th e three-mile marker was a ch eck, th e check-in to the specia l test. The 36 mph sectio n dropped all th e riders points. Open AA rider Fullmer was the best rider through this secti on, dropping his o ne point. Daniel ( 1.147) probably wishes h e could have bought II seconds, it was that close. Third overall went to Kurt Butler. and he was followed by Scott Sampson. Mar k Cook. Kent Perkins, Tim Curtis and John E. J aco bsen . This was Jacobsen 's very first ride on a brand new 200 Kawasaki and bested th e A u nder 16 class . The overall class winners for 1983 went down to th e wire a t the 12th event for th e year. the Santa Claus. N umber o ne senior for 1984 will be Harry Keast. (Mai) with Scott Sampso n (KTM) tops in th e 250s. Ken ny Kem p (Kaw) in th e 2oos, J im Bollingmo (Yam )Jr. for the four-strokes. Shauna H op kins (Kaw ) the women and another J acobsen .
