L3 Kawasaki-Support rider Jason Langford trounced the Mini Senior field today at Swan Motocross Raceway. The very promising 13-year-old hotshoe bolted from the gate LO take charge in both moLOS. Langford was never seriously challenged as he cruised the course in the lead on all laps. Two other consistent Kawa aki pilots. Tommy Hall and Brent Burkham, ran second and third both times out. But the day belonged LO Langford, who once again ran smooth and steady. turning excellent lap times on his 80cc machiQe, clocking times one second faster than the I 25cc Novi es. In 125cc Novice class action, jason jes up swapped holeshOls with'Tony Lasater, e.nroute 10 taking charge of the class overall honors. je up was smokin' and trokin' his Yamaha to victory, leading runner-up Lasater every lap of the way. Yamaha-mounted Kai Roberts finished third in both moLO . The Over 30, Open Intermediates and Experts were run LOgether, but scored separately. Some exciting racing in the first moLO took place between Experts Bo Stegall and Monty Bland. Stegall bested Bland on all laps of the heated battle LO break the tape and close out the first moLO. Doug Roberts was the first Open Intermediate to the flag. Troy Rapp led the Over 30 class over the line. As the second molO got underway it was Stegall and Bland dueling again in what promised 10 be another barn-burner. Bland held the lead near the end of lap one. At the bottom of the downhill, disappointment welled-up when Bland went down. Stegall, making a gutsy move, had pulled alongside Bland in the tight, muddy turn after the downhill. The two Honda aces appeared to collide, resulting in Bland going down and out of the race. From there Stegall had an easy ride LO victory. Open Intermediate Roberts and Over 30 rider Rapp repeated their first molO successes. Results o POSTERS Only, Please. o Payment enclosed (Vam); 5. Diclt Sa.ala (Yam); 6. Roger Do_n (KTM); 7. Cooper flies to victory in GNC Regional By John Malsam PONCA CITY, OK, NOV. 13 Guy Cooper probably holds all of the distance records off of every jump on every MX track in Oklahoma, and today he sailed LO the overall win in the l25cc Expert class and a third in the 250cc Expert event at the GNC Central Regional Championship in Ponca City. Riders from 10 tate entered into heated competition for 15 qualifying lot for th GNC finals LO be held at Lake Whitne.y in March of 1984. While the most exciting racing was in the Expert cla ses, all classes featured close racing. By the end of the first moLO, track conditions had changed dramatically. In some spots the hard, rough surface claimed several first-round winners. Cooper placed first overall in the 125cc Expert class by virtue of hiswin in the second moLO. Moto number one went LO smooth-riding jerry Surber. In round two the Texas rider didn't gate well and Cooper led the charge to and then past the first corner. When Cooper overshot the first turn, the Yamaha of Whi perin' Smith slipped pa t into the lead. Cooper recovered quickly. Before the end of lap one Cooper closed on Smith and passed in the air over the largest jump on the track. After the pass, Cooper built his lead and was never challenged. First-moLO winner Surber worked his way LO fourth and second overall. The 250cc Expert class was a real dogfight too. Cooper placed third overall. Yamaha-sponsored Dennis Daft put together a second and first for first overall. Daft also finjshed fourth in the I 25cc Expert cla s. In the 250cc Intermediate class, Dalleu Maddux built up such a large lead in the first moLO it seemed that he wa the onl one on the track. Maddux timed the gate drop in the second moLO perfeclly and by the end of the first lap he had built up a sizable lead. But then the track gremlins claimed another victim. Maddux circled the track slowly in last place for eighth overall. Fred Meyer combined a sixth and second for first overall. The real story was the comeback of Honda-mounted Mike Lenz. Lenz finished 10th in the first moLO, but he charged to the front of the pack at the start of the second moto. Although outdistanced by Maddux, he kept the first molO winner in sight and when Madox crashed, he moved into the lead. Believe it or not, 10 plus one equals second overall. The Emig brothers from Kansas City proved to be the family winners today. Between Bryan and je£(, they carried home five trophies. Bryan took first in the 125cc Intermediate and second in the I 25cc Stock classes. jeff took first in the Minibike 105cc and Minibike enior classes and second in the Minibike stock class. • Results TEENV MINI: 1.
