Jones was in command throughout the first moto as Keefe was forced to work up through the pack "and move into second by tbe checkers. Moto two looked to be Jones benefit until mechan ical problems struck and Keefe another opened a big lead en route to the win. Motocross Action's Jody Weisel captured the runner-up spot ahead of Jones with Matt Coleman pushing his Czecho-machine to fourth. Freddie Baker used consistent runner-up finishes to earn top honors in the Open Intermediate class after first-moto winner Mark Johnson dropped to seventh in round two action. Mark Lawrence powered his JAWA/CZ to the checkers first in moto two and ended the day second overall ahead of two Lancaster residents, Vern Trahan and Steve Harman. Robert Berdyck styled to the Open CZ Novice win on one of the classiest old Commie Ironworks on hand for the days event. Robin Hannah picked up the number-two overall honors with Fred Cox rounding out the top three positions. Photo-star Lance Moorewood and "Mister CZ" Pete Maley battled throughout the 250cc CZ Expert race. Moorewood proved to have the edge in equipment (very ~ric~!) and ove!- all speed as he swept both motos a . ~ clinched the title. Maley's val' efforts netted him the almost-cha honors. Robert Dykman was able> push his Che-Zed to a third-place f ish while Phillip Hall powered t 4-4 score and fourth overall. ~ Biggest class of the day was t 250cc Novice parts-breaker with 19 hearty souls competing these one-ola-kind honors. The fastest proved be Pasadena resident Nick Larso who blasted his way to first place'i both modes. John Courst picked up second ahead of David Tanis, Cycle News ad flake Terry Pratt and J Rammetta. 1b The Vintage 250cc Novice class featured some good old fashioned racing as two Huskys battled two CZs, one Hodaka, one KTM and a totally sano Bultaco 125. Ed Lane powered his CZ to first-place overall with Bultaco rider Dick Frampton claiming second ahead of KTM pilot Rene Zambrano. ; A special thanks to the good folks at Motocross Action who help make this event possible each year. Answer products earned the second most helpful award by providing super-neat looking CZ bibs for the competitors to wear and Malcolm Smith products picks up an honorable mention with their nifty CZ visors for pit stylin'.
