any other factories running againSt them, but there is always hope that. somebody will come along and give them a run for the money. To King Kenny: It would sure be nice LO see you at Daytona in racing trim. Show everybody how it's done one more time at least. With Kawasaki out of racing, almost, your racing at Daytona would probably be [he only bright spot during a shonened, for me, Daytona Cycle Week. If Kenny ever has another ride. I~ us know - I'd plan a vacation around that. Photo. by David Edward•. A nice Guy says thanks As the overall winner in the 1983 AME Budweiser Friday Night Motocross Series, I'd like LO thank some people who have made this win possible. First, I'd like to thank my mom and dad for their continual help and support. Next, thanks to my major sponsor, Hal Sanguinetti of TNT Racing/ Track 'N Travel Motorcycles in Pasadena. Besides poning my cylinder and setting up my shock, Hal has helped me work on, and learn to work on my bikes, and helped with parts and getting suppon from my other sponsors. He has given me a lot of friendship, personal encouragement, and discipline when I needed it the most. . Thanks should go to Honda motorcycles, for making such a fine bike. I've bought two of them, and they work excellently. Richter Industries makes the best silencers, bars and grips; thanks LO Bruce Richter and Gene Rubino. I've had only one pipe on both bikes all year, and thanks to Tim McGarry of the Crotch Rocket Factory in Goleta. Their pipe really made my bike come alive. Pete Vetrano of Moto-Man Distributing helped me with great deals on the best tires: Metzeler. Thank you to joe and Ed Lozano for helping me to get pans when my local dealer didn't have them. Thanks LO jeU Hanzo, Troy Siemon, Tom Hoi t and Brad Brown for helping me practice. Thanks LO Yamaha and all the other sponsors who provided prizes and awards, not just for me, but for all the racers. Thanks LO jerry and Shirley Shore of AME, and to Bud· ~eiser for making the series possible. And finally, thanks to runner-up Paul Thompson and all the rest of the AME riders for being good competitors and good spons. Thank you all very much. GUY GIFFIN Pasadena, CA Sow'S ear CBX7 I am interested in a 1982 Honda CBX but cannOl find anyone who makes accessories for the bike. I need a backrest at least 18 inches high so my wife can be comfonable while riding behind me. Also, does anyone make bar-backs or handlebars that are made for shon-armed people. I am six feet tall but still have LO lean forward too much. I want the bike LO be able to puB a 500-pound trailer that I am now pulling with a '75 Gold Wing that has too tall a first gear. Also I would like LO buy a rear luggage rack and rear passenger foot boards for the CBX. WAYNE E. WRIGHT Hemet, CA Wayne, have you ever heard of the old adage, "You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear~" Well, the same holds true in reverse. The CBX you are thinking of buying is an excellent sport tourer; what you want is aJulldress touring machine. Check out the new Gold Wings, the Yamaha Venture or the Kawasaki Voyager, they'll serve you better than a gussied-up CBX ... Editor. So Long, Teem Green On behalf of Team Green fans across the country, I would like LO express our surprise and sadness at Kawasaki MOLOr Corp. USA announcing their withdrawal from AMA professional road racing. Our annual trip LO Laconia and Pocono certainly won't seem the same. To Eddie, Wayne, Wes, Gary, Rob and crew, thanks for the fine performances. We only wish the big network hadn't cancelled your show. ART DAVIS HousaLOnic, MA Run for the money Congratulations LO Kawasaki and Wayne Rainey on winning the Super. bike ti tie. It just goes to show you that Honda still hasn't learnea that money can't buy everything. It's too bad that Kawasaki is pulling out of professional road racing and won't be defending their title next year. Honda may be able LO win without Plaudits for Pontiac just a few observations on the Camel Pro Series season ending Pon. tiac 'IT: As usual, Dave Despain's expert comentary was in itself worth the ticket price. Let's hope this well-run program becomes a permanent stop on the Camel Pro trail. We were impressed with Mike Gilkey's performance in coming through the Last Chance Qualifier to race well in the main. That rider/bike went 55 laps on a LOugh track! I am having a tough time believing those were Harley-Davidsons that 6, 9 and II were on. Congratulations for a good job to Randy Goss and Ricky Graham who took it right down to the wire. L.G. HORRIE Bradford, IL Gary Scott speaks out Randy Goss should stick toncing motorcycles and keeping his mouth shut instead of making comments like he did in the Cycle Nt!Ws issue of October 12; "I think I have them (Graham, Bubba Shobert &: Springsteen) on their knees. Now, I need to knock them on their backs. Of course, there's no sense fighting unless you jump on them after you've knocked .them down." I think this sets a bad example not only for a Grand National Champion but to those upcoming riders who look up LO a Grand National Champion. Randy Goss is just a blowhard because he was supposed to be jumping on Ricky when he was down on his back. Not only was Ricky up on his feet, but was winning the- last three consecutive Nationals making Ricky as much a champion as Randy, in my opinion.
