Musgrave muscles OCIR250cc Intermediates By Tom Corley IRVINE, CA, OCT. 13 Mission Viejo Kawasaki/WFOrider Willy Musgrave is currently one of the top 250cc Intermediate contenders in the 22 Trans-Cal eries. Musgrave i also on a winning streak in local competiLion. Tonight at OCIR Willy successfully downed the 250cc Intermediate cia s with two moLO wins. Fighting from behind and landing the runnerup posiLion was Larry Gross fromMission Yamaha. DC PromoLion INeo Oil-backed Jason Coolbaugh held back the rest of the pack and took a con istent pair of thirds for that overall position. The Yamaha of Larry Gross proved LO be fast at the start and he took the holeshot in the first moLO. Right behind him was Musgrave. While still on the first lap the lead position changed hands. Musgrave romped over the stutterbumps somewhat faster than Gross and snatched the lead away. Willy kept building momentum and by the end of the race he held over a 20-second lead. Gross continued in second place and pursuing him was Coolbaugh. MIC Country rider Tom Mee mounted the only KTM in the race and he placed fourth. Jeff Caldwell was fifth on his Kawasaki. "It was just kick back," stated Musgrave regarding the final moLO race. Musgrave took a better start and led every lap for the win. Jeff Caldwell surprised the pack and followed Willy with the first lap. Behind him was Gross, Coolbaugh and Tom Jones. Caldwell held the sought-after position for only one lap, and on the s~cond lap, he dropped back to fifth. it was then Musgrave, Gross, Coolbaugh, Jones and Caldwell. This order remained the same until the sixth lap when Jones fell back to fifth place and Caldwell took over fourth. It remains LO be seen how Musgrave does overall in the Trans-Cal Series, but in OCIR Motocross he is definitely the top 250cc Intermediate. With his numerous wins he should be advancing LO the 250cc Pro clas soon. Two firsts earned Willy the win tonight. Gross had a fine pair of second-place finishes for that position overall. Coolbaugh has been traveling the Trans-Cal Series along wi th Musgrave and has experienced a few tracks that are quite different from OCIR. A pair of thirds gave Coolbaugh the third and la t trophy LO be awarded in this class. Caldwell's 5-4 earned him fourth. Mee had a 4-7 which !fl< bn£ £rr IH lAW ~W Jim Holley led the Pro contirm, gency in a hot duel with Pet' Snoneland at California Ra 9' ing Club's President's Cup GJY at Indian Dunes. IRVI E, CA, SEPT. 22 The Clemson Brothers, Bill and Eric, consistently take home top finishes in the I25cc Intermediate class at Orange County International Raceway. Tonight Eric_ was the lone Clemson and he swept both moLOS for the overall win. While this class included familiar riders such as Eric Clemson and Lance Rieman, tbere was a new kid who wanted in on the act. Fresh out of the Mini Expert class and switching LO a Yamaha 125 after Ponca City, Billy Frank was on the loose. Frank showed the regulars what he could do as he led the first moLO, but disastrously, his Yamaha broke down and all he could do was push his bike back LO the pits. Clemson was rid of the new kid and continued to take the prize. With the start of the first moLO it was Billy Frank taking the holeshot. Behind Billy charged Clemson and at a distance was the North County Yamaha rider Rieman. For two laps,
