Smith stays hot at 100'5 H&H By Shirley Upp LUCERNE VALLEY, CA, OCT. 23 Dan Smith and his 500XC Husqvarna once again dominated the desert as he took an early lead and held it to take the 18 overall win in the 16th annual l00's M.e. Hare and Hound. This time of year is perfect for desert racing and the 100's had a challenging course ready for the over 300 riders that signed up. When the banner dropped at 9 a.m. it was Husky riders Smith and Dan Ashcraft taking the lead about five miles past the bomb. Kevin Hopkins, riding a 500XR Honda for the first time, was enjoying the power and comfort of the big bore as he was up with front runners at third. Riding in the 250cc Vet class today, Gary Charters came by fourth. Leading the 250cc class at fifth was Montclair Yamaha rider Ed Pierce. Duane Summers was leading the C bike riders.
