Trans-Cal Series: Round 2 Kiedrowski dominates at CalExpo Supercross By Tom Corley SACRAMENTO, CA, OCT. 2 Answer Products/PJ-1 sponsored Mike Kiedrowski is on a winning streak in the important Diet Coke/CMC Trans-Cal Series. Talented Kiedrowski, from Canyon Country, had to fight yet he pulled oH the 80cc Intermediate win in the opening event at Spillway Park. The deep sandy terrain of 24 Spillway differed completely from that of Sacramento's Cal-Expo, the site of the Supercross and today's Amateur event, yet Kiedrowski proved himself once more' as he swept both motos {or the overall win. Acompetitive force came from Alan Pierce from Bakersfield who became the runner-up and also Clovis resident Dallen McKenney, who hooked third. There were 19 riders in the 80cc Intermediate 12-16 class in which Kiedrowski was involved. Taking the holes hot in the first moto was J.J. Taylor on a Kawasaki out o{ Fair Oaks. His lead was very brief as Kiedrowski caught him by the end of the starting stretch to snatch the lead away. As they came around on the first lap, it was Kiedrowski with the lead and Dallas McKenney in the number-two spot. Taylor was still in a good position as he held down third place but Alan Pierce was on his tail. The first notable crash happened over a series of whoops where the spectators lined up against and it was Todd Hicks and Jeff Wenger tangling bikes. On the next lap, Pierce worked past Taylor to advance to third place. Through the finish line it was Kiedrowski with the win on his Kawasaki. McKenney was the top northern rider and he took second over Pierce and Taylor. The track was watered by means of a hose rather than a water truck. Right before the final moto of the 80cc Intermediate class the first turn was watered down thoroughly and this was enough to drop a couple of riders. Jeff Mabery and J.J. Taylor bit the loose ground with Taylor plowing into a haybale. The good times were rolling {or Kawasaki as it was Kiedrowski, McKenney and Pierce taking the lead positions on their green machines. The racing became intense as Pierce was pushing hard to pass McKenney and claim second place. As these two riders flew over the Miller High Life Mountain, the finish jump, Pierce became the new second place rider. This change o{ event was good for Pierce yet very bad for McKenney, who not only lost his position but landed hard into a haybale. Fortunately, the fall didn't harm McKenney and his bike started up easily. McKenney was able to continue and he held a fine third place. Through the checkered flag they came with Kiedrowski with the clean win ahead o{ Pierce and McKenney. Two first place wins earned Mike Kiedrowski the overall win and a huge first place trophy. While Kiedrowski was the champ of the 80cc Intermediate 12-16class, it was Vacaville's Mike Pascarella with the 80cc Intermediate 9-11 win. Pascarella took a hard knock but quite remarkably came through with the first moto win. He hit the ground while coming off some double jumps on the first lap. Holding down the lead was Jimmy Clay from Hayward and Ronnie Densford from Canyon Country where Kiedrowski lives also. Going through some tough roller jumps, Clay lost control of his Yamaha. Densford snatched the lead and then it was Densford. Pascarella who got underway and Clay. Densford had well over a IOO-yard lead and it seemed as though he had it made. This wasn't true, though, as Pascarella was making a strong drive to catch him. Pascarella moved up within striking distance. On the very last corner, belore the finish line, Pascarella slid past Dens{ord to take away the lead. It was Pascarella, Densford and Clay. Pascarella avoided the trou ble of playing catch up and took the holeshot in the final moto. Densford was In second ahead of Clay. Over a section of jumps, Clay nearly passed Densford but was unsuccessful. These three hela their positions and there was no passing like in the first round. Two firsts earned Pascarella the top position overall. Densford, from American Honda, had a pair of seconds which gave him that position overall. Clay took third. Bill Waltman had to go to great lengths to race at Sacramento. He was able to get a ride to the race from Robert Forest and traveled back home to Quartz Hill with Jeff Mabery. Waltman was a top contender in the I25cc Junior Division One class as he took second place behind Hugh Parker the winner. Waltman took the lead in the first moto while followed by Hugh Parker and Dave SchwarlOtt. Then Waltman dropped his bike but was able to pick it up and continue with the lead. "On the super berm, I hit the hay bale and it hurt!" explained Waltman. Soon SchwarlOtt worked by Parker to take over second place. Later Schwarzott lost second place when he fell down on a straight. Emory Cate moved up to second place. Through the finish it was Waltman, Cate, Schwarzott and Pinker. Jeff "Chicken" Matiasevich had a bad first moto but made quite a comeback in the final moto. He took the holeshot and was followed by Parker, Cate, Haney and Waltman. The track was slippery and Matiasevich spun out his Suzuki on a corner before some stutters. Parker became the new leader, while Matiasevich went down, and running into him was Cate, who bailed also. Soon, Waltman slid out on that corner but kept going. Paker held the lead over Robert Haney and then Matiasevich, who got underway. "Chicken" was not to be underestimated as soon he caught up to the leaders. He tagged Haney on a small corner, and then he snatched the lead away from Parker over a jump. Matiasevich advanced over those two riders within two turns. Remarkably, Matiasevich took the moto win over Parker, Haney, Schwanott and Waltman. Every rider in this race had a different finish from the first moto to the second moto. The 4-2 tally of Hugh Paker was the finest and he took the overall. Waltman out-shined everyone in the first moto but got hung up in tra£fic in the final even. Still, Waltman was the runner-up overall with a 1-5 score. Dave Schwarzou had a 3-4 which gave him third. Robert Haney's 5-3 won him fourth. The inconsistent 10-1 tally of Jeff Matiasevich landed him fifth overall. Results 60 THRU B: 1. John Sha...r (Kawl; 2. Tom Donahue. 60 9·11: 1. Don Piantanida (Kaw); 2. Brian Wal· lers (Hon); 3.
