tail. A back and forth battle eXisted
between Butler and Clifton with Butler being knocked off the course at
one point. Eventually, Clifton cleared
away from Butler and was able to
concentrate on going after Kadau.
Through the finish it was Kadau,
Clifton, Butler, Richard Flemingand
Jim spotts.
Kadau jumped ahead of the competition in the final mota with Clifton being his closest threat. Riekki
didn't race this moto. Clifton £lew
past Kadau on a back straight to take
over the lead. It didn't last long as
Kadau regained the lead on a straight
that was before the tower. Then Clifton noticed that his swingarm bolt
was coming out and this spelled
trouble. As he rounded a corner, ne
stopped briefly to see if his dad could
push the bolt back into position.
They hammered it back into position, but his machine still swapped
about and Clifton moved way back to
d
eighth place. Butler became the secon
place finisher ahead of Fleming, John
Ray and Spotts. Two first place positions earned Kadau the top trophy
over Butler, Fleming, Ray and Spotts.
The 250cc Intermediate class just
couldn't get orr to a decent start in the
first mota. A crash and a faulty starting gate caused the orricials to restart
the race, and with the restart, there
was yet another crash. Kit Palmer
had the holeshot, but Ron Economu
quickly took over the lead. Doug
Russell followed Economu around
Palmer, but Economu fell on the
comer before the tower where Riekki
fell in the 125ccclass. Russell lost out
on second place but, still managed
fourth. Mat Branch took over second
