A back and forth battle eXisted between Butler and Clifton with Butler being knocked off the course at one point. Eventually, Clifton cleared away from Butler and was able to concentrate on going after Kadau. Through the finish it was Kadau, Clifton, Butler, Richard Flemingand Jim spotts. Kadau jumped ahead of the competition in the final mota with Clifton being his closest threat. Riekki didn't race this moto. Clifton £lew past Kadau on a back straight to take over the lead. It didn't last long as Kadau regained the lead on a straight that was before the tower. Then Clifton noticed that his swingarm bolt was coming out and this spelled trouble. As he rounded a corner, ne stopped briefly to see if his dad could push the bolt back into position. They hammered it back into position, but his machine still swapped about and Clifton moved way back to d eighth place. Butler became the secon place finisher ahead of Fleming, John Ray and Spotts. Two first place positions earned Kadau the top trophy over Butler, Fleming, Ray and Spotts. The 250cc Intermediate class just couldn't get orr to a decent start in the first mota. A crash and a faulty starting gate caused the orricials to restart the race, and with the restart, there was yet another crash. Kit Palmer had the holeshot, but Ron Economu quickly took over the lead. Doug Russell followed Economu around Palmer, but Economu fell on the comer before the tower where Riekki fell in the 125ccclass. Russell lost out on second place but, still managed fourth. Mat Branch took over second after Palmer dropped out with suspension problems while Mike Pryor 'd took thu . Economu failed to take tbe holeshot in the final round.
