i c,unaway fashion and appeared set
to do the same in the final. "Everything appears to be working very
well," said Labrosse before the final.
Renfrow's strategy was to get a
good start and stay right with
l;abrosse. "1£ I let AlaR get away
early," said Renfrow, "that could be
the race."
It was Brunson who led the opening lap with Labrosse, Knott and
Brauneck in tow. Renfrow tapped
~auneck early in the lap and had
gone off the track. He worked back to
eighth by the end of lap one.
Renfrow moved into fifth on the
second lap and the battle was on.
Labrosse took over the lead with
Brunson staying close as the Knolll
Brauneck/Renfrow ballle began. By
the fourth lap, the two front-runners
had pulled out some breathing room.
Labrosse then began opening up a
gap on Brunson which would grow
t6nine seconds by the beginning of
tap eight. Meanwhile, Renfrow
hallied past KnOll and Brauneck began
reeling in-Brunson.
,"I got a lap signal starting lap
eight which read, 'Nine seconds,' and
I knew I could run a lillie easier,"
said Labrosse afterward. "Then, i.ust
as iJ was exiting onto the banking
from the infield ~he chain snapped
and my race was over. I didn't win,
but I let everyone know I was here."
Capadian Labrosse is sponsored by
LufOil, CKOL-Radio and Shoei.
.Brunson's lead began to shrink by
about two seconds a lap as he ran the
£inal two laps. At the £lag Renfrow
was only 10 bikelengths behind.
KnOll and Brauneck were taking
the race for third right to the finish
also, with KnOll breathing a sigh of
relief that his 15-foot edge on Brauneck was good for third place.
"It's a shame they didn't have a
proper winner's circle ceremony for
the Formula Two event," said Renfrow. "I've been there before so I've
had.~'Share,o.glory I but-this was
Kevin's first victory in Formula Two
and it is also the first time Boonie has
made an AMA winner's circle. They
deserved a chance to celebrate a lillie."
