"Everything appears to be working very well," said Labrosse before the final. Renfrow's strategy was to get a good start and stay right with l;abrosse. "1£ I let AlaR get away early," said Renfrow, "that could be the race." It was Brunson who led the opening lap with Labrosse, Knott and Brauneck in tow. Renfrow tapped ~auneck early in the lap and had gone off the track. He worked back to eighth by the end of lap one. Renfrow moved into fifth on the second lap and the battle was on. Labrosse took over the lead with Brunson staying close as the Knolll Brauneck/Renfrow ballle began. By the fourth lap, the two front-runners had pulled out some breathing room. Labrosse then began opening up a gap on Brunson which would grow t6nine seconds by the beginning of tap eight. Meanwhile, Renfrow hallied past KnOll and Brauneck began reeling in-Brunson. ,"I got a lap signal starting lap eight which read, 'Nine seconds,' and I knew I could run a lillie easier," said Labrosse afterward. "Then, i.ust as iJ was exiting onto the banking from the infield ~he chain snapped and my race was over. I didn't win, but I let everyone know I was here." At the £lag Renfrow was only 10 bikelengths behind. KnOll and Brauneck were taking the race for third right to the finish also, with KnOll breathing a sigh of relief that his 15-foot edge on Brauneck was good for third place. "It's a shame they didn't have a proper winner's circle ceremony for the Formula Two event," said Renfrow. "I've been there before so I've had.~'Share,o.glory I but-this was Kevin's first victory in Formula Two and it is also the first time Boonie has made an AMA winner's circle. "jay (Springsteen) took the bike to victory in the first series round in March so I wanted to close out the season .with a win." Church, in his fust race since breaking his collarbone in late july, took the HarleyDavidson XR-IOOO-based moum to victory over Ducati riders joey Mills, jimmy Adamo and Ron Sbordone. Mills led the field away on the first of 10 laps with Church, Adamo and Malcome Tunstall in tow. The positions remained the same on lap two with Church then taking the lead from Mills on lhe third lap.
