A WLLZ Welcomes PRODUCT EVALUATION ~ AMA GRAND NAnONAL CHAMPIONSHIP - - SERIES FINALS PONTIAC SILVERDOME ] SATURDA~ § AM/I OCTOBER 22 0 SANCTIONED Bolle' GP1 Goggles/Integral Pro Tear-Offs RACING AT 8:30 PM ~ol1e' GPI Goggles bring a fresh new design into the off· road eye protection field. Most designers of goggles neglect to provide any type of adequate measures to keep your nose intact, so the normal route is to mount a snap-on face guard. That works hne if you have an open face helmet, but if you want a bit more na al insurance with your full face helmet you'll have to tri m the guard down to fit inside. The GPI eliminates the hassle of having to buy and jury-rig a separate guard by having a buill-in nose proteClor, molded as part of the goggles. When teamed up with a full face helmet or an open face helmet equipped with a chin guard of some type, the combination provides a degree of protection from the various types of shrapnel found on motocross courses. For the woods rider, a tree branch-bauered nose will become a tbing of tbe past. Manufactured in France, the unit hasa polycarbonate plastic lens which is aboul twice the thickness of the run-of-the-mill lens. It is claimed to be shallerproor. and has a scratch resistant coating. Replacing the lens proved simple, with only a single retaining post at the top requiring alignment as the lens is worked into the frame. I The Bolle' Integral Pro Tea~-o[fs are a layer system, and allach by worki ng the tear-off into the frame of the goggles, then pressing it over a mounting post on the leftside. If you prefer, tbe mounting post may be witched for right side removal. As each layer is removed, the next tab pop out. making it difficult to remove more than a single Layer at a time. If you've ever experienced tbe frustration of pulling off three or four con· ventionaltear-o[[s at once in a racing s1"tuation when you only wanted to remove one. you will definitely appreciate the Bolle' sy tem. We found the Bolle' GPI Goggle sy tem to be an all-around comfortable unit, and it will makea welcome addition to a racer's gear bag. The goggles retail for $35, replacement lenses are S 12, and tbe tear-offs sell for $4 per set of ten. The frames come in bla k. yellow, and red.
