The members of the winning American team proudly displey slUiles. wreaths. trophies and champagne--the international symbols for victory, David Bailey. with three U.S. National titles already under his belt. recorded 4-1 placings in Belgium; good enough for the overall individual win. By Catherine Eman ANGREAU, BELGiuM, SEPT. 4 For the third year in a row the American team has won the Motocross des Nations World Championship team motocross race against the best that the Europeans could 20 throw at them. This time instead of an all-Honda team, I all four Japanese manufacturers were represented. Honda's David Bailey, Kawasaki's jeff Ward, Yamaha's Brae Glover and Suzuki's Mark Barnett put together a team effort for a 15 to 32 win over the Belgian team of World Champions Georges jobe and Eric Geboers, former World Champion Andre Malherbe, and last year's World Championship runner-up Andre Vromans. Third went to the British team of Bailey, the only remaining membe.] from last year's winning team and the recently crowned Supercross/250Y Grand National Champion, led the 'team with 4-1 mota scores good enough for the overall win. "None of us really knew w~at to expect," he said. "I was more nervous this year because last year 1came over with not that much time - so 1 didn't have time to think about it that much." Ward's 2-4 scores gave him second overall on the unfamiliar 500cc machine tuned by Mike McAndrews. "I haven't ridden the 500s much so 1 was kind of lost. But 1 like riding them and everything went pretty good."
