Team Husqvarna rider Mike Melton, aboard
a 430 WR, dropped 30 points through 102miles and 15 checks for the overall trophy at
the Rattlesnake 100 National. Melton needs
only LO finish in the top five in
one of the remaining three Nationals to become the 1983
National Enduro Champion.

"I certainly feel bener now than I
did at this time last year." said Melton. afrer receiving his overall trophy
and handmade ralliesnakeskin belt
buckle. When asked about the race
between himseU and defending Champion Terry Cunningham. Mike said.
"I knew T.C. could win it. but I sure
wasn't going to give it to him like I
did last year. What I mean is he is
having a tough year; all those things
that are happening to him now happened to me last year."
"I need to overall the remaining
four Nationals and that includt:s
Winterset, if I'm going to win the
championship again," said Cunningham prior to the run. "Only 10
Nationals count toward the final score
and I DNF one this spring and missed
another when I broke my thumb
