Triple winner Ron Veftlllmoto we. definitely on form et Huettei' Speedwey.
With the points races as tight as
they are in the 500 and Open Expert
classes between Yamamoto and
Cruickshank, it was rdreshing for
Yamamoto to take another win and
close the gap considerably on Cruickshank who holds the points lead.
Yamamoto and Cruickshank started
an initial battle for the lead., but
Yamamoto held on to puJl way ahead
of Cruickshank at the flag and put
Arney Wick, Phil Hamby and Corky
Jurkovich back in the dust. Cruickshank has enjoyed a record amount
of 500 and Open Expert victories this
season but couldn't manage a win in
the 500s, which went Yamamoto's
way.
In the Open Expert main, Cruickshank cranked his 480 Honda into
the lead to take what would be his
first and only win of the night in the
mains. Yamamoto, DarreII Triber
and Rich Hayman stayed in there to
keep Cruickshank and Yamamoto
honest. The deadly duo held on to
finish first and second and stay close
in points going into the championship race and give the 1500 spectators
something to cheer about.
Big money was on the line in the
Guymond Memorial 20-lap race
which lined up a variety of machinery ranging from 250 to 75Occ's. Yamamoto toyed with Cruickshank for
a couple of laps and after that said,
"Here's to you, Tony," and quickly
sped away for the win and a nice sum
of cash for his efforts. Cruickshank
was second and finished up another
time in runner-up position, outpacing Arney Wick.
