Minlmayllem Invades tile Dunes By Tom Griffith VALENCIA, CA, AUG. 28 The Mini wars continued today at Indian Dunes Cycle Park and amazingly enough, some of the Mini riders were producing lap times almost as fast as those of the l25cc Pros. The action began when the combined J uniors, Intermediates and Pros jammed into the first turn at the Slart of moto one. Answer/PJ-I's Mike Kiedrowski (Kaw) stole the holeshot, but Eddie Hicks, aborad what looked LO be a new 1984 YZ80, quickly captured the lead while the rest of the Pro riders batded with the Imermediates. Keeping constant pressure, hoping to captialize on a mislake by the leader, was Team Green's Kyle Lewis. But Hicks and Lewis took first and second in both motos for the overalls. The real surprise of the race was the effort by Kiedrowski who took both holeshots and lead moto two for several laps. His first overall in the Intermediate ranks was well deserved. The 125cc Pro race, com bined with 2505 and 500s meant only one payoff today. Doug Gentry demonstrated his cominued mastery of the track by copping the holeshot in moto one. Bob Kline, Russ Wageman and Jon Ortner followed closely, bllt Gemry was pulling away. Eventually Kline managed LO hook up to Gentry's. wake and the two began increasing their lead each lap. Meanwhile, Brand Johnson, on his Cagiva 250, stuffed his front wheel into a sandy rut and went down. Kelly Pugmire took advantage of this and mOLOred imo first in the 2505. During the race, Gentry's father commented on his son's improved slamina, but slamina didn't seem to matter after Gentry's Yamaha came to an untimely hall. Bob Kline assumed the lead and took the win followed closely by Jon Ormer. In theserond go, Wageman muscled to the holeshot and was never really threatened for the win. A combined 4-1 score gave him second overall. Kline captured the overall however, with a 1-2 lally. Results w_ PEE WEE: ,. Pit (y.ml: 2. Brie! Schultz (Y.ml: 3. Jeff Willoh (y.ml. JR C: 1.
