Moran went by on the inside on the back straight, with Christian coming back by with a pass one lap later. Moran gambled and went to the cushion coming out of the final comer, but fell half a wheel short to Christian at the checkered. For Bast, the win was his fifth at IMS in 19B!!, which ties him with Mike Faria for the lead. Riding the only non-Weslake in the six-rider field, Bobby Schwartz (Bel-Ray/Sinisalo) took his Jawa from the 4O-yard line to the win in the Handicap main Coming o(f wins in his heat and semi, John MacNeil took the lead from the 10 over Gene Woods and Steve Lucero. Schwartz made the move of the night when he banzaied it into tum three on the opener to pass both Lucero and Woods for the runner-up spot. From then on, it was just a matter of time until the "Boogaloo Kid" caught MacNeil. It happened on the third revolution when Schwartz made a slashing move which put him on top. Schwartz then gave the appreciative crowd what they wanted as he moved away from the pack for the win. MacNeil looked like he was going to end up in second until he left a small hole open which let John Sandona through on the last lap. Mark Weaver (Jones Godd) made it two out of the last three in IMS Division two action. Weaver started on the 20 and took the lead from his brother-in-law Randy Bennett near the end of the first circuit. Weaver opened up a big lead, with Andy Northrup, Tom Walton and Tim McCasland trailing. It stayed that way until the final circuit when Walton broke, ~ving third to McCasland. Weaver took the checkered with a halfstraightaway lead. I Jeff Springman (Bill's PipeslTroy rLee Design Wes) made his fust appearce in quite a while and won his .neat and second IMS Third Division ain of the season. Steve Johnson ook the early lead, only to have Springman blast by on the first cirwit. Weaver opened up a big lead, -with Andy Northrup, Tom Walton and Tim McCasland trailing. It stayed that way until the final circuit when Walton broke, giving third to McCasland. Weaver took the checkered with a half-straightaway lead. Jeff Springman (Bill's PipeslTroy Lee Design Wes) made his fustappearance in quite a while and won his heat and second IMS Third Division main of the season. Steve Johnson took the early lead, only to have Springman blast by on the first circuit. Springman ran away to the checkered, with Johnson taking second followed by popular Mike Dwyer. Bobby Cody (Cody Products/Johar/Oakley) inherited the lead on lap three when leader Tim Gewecke fell. Cody went on to post his third IMS Junior win of the season.
