Terry Nichols. Not exactly a
nousehold name in motocross
is it? Nichols. like some other
more famous personalities. has
a motocross school. He offers a school
that is available at a variety of locations and schedules around the southern California area. A school could
be arranged in other areas with
enough students and an appointment.
Nichols' school is a viable way to
Improve your riding skills for a min.mum of investment in both time and
money. Plus, he gives schools for
.trail riding skills as well. In his oneand two-day schools, the first part of
the day is spent on the psychology of
racing, and learning the importance
of some basic riding positions.
Then he puts riders through a series of drills combining braking and
turning. All types of turns and tech<\liques are covered while a close watch
is kept on progress. Nichols also utilizes a video camera so students can
critique themselves.
Late in the day, or on the second
!day, starts, jumps and whoops are
covered. The riders at the school the
day we were there were beginners,
while a staffer and a contributor who
auended had a great deal of expe.rience. We all felt that we learned
from the techniques offered, but most
importantly, we got for our money a
jl3ined observer as a captive audience.
