Giesick soon controlled the race with Johnson dropping off a fraction but still commanding over the Green/Bennett/Latimer shootout of large displacement machinery. South Dakota's Tommy Lepo moved Montana Junior Dieu back a notch to seventh. That made up the classiest finish order in the West which went Giesick, Johnson and Green in the top three. Sweet homecoming at Hillside ST, TT By Margaret Orr BOYD, TX, AUG. 6 After a summer of riding "up north" and on the National circuit, Sammy Sweet was sitting out at home while his big bike was undergoing repairs. Sweet came LO Boyd for the weekend and went away with the win in the 250cc Senior short track main event. Scott Scherb 'got the holeshot to lead Sweet into the first corner and into turn three only LO see the race SLOpped as four riders tangled and scattered on the back straight. All of the downed riders except Kelly Johnson were able to return for the restart. On the restart Sweet led into the turn followed by Shon Stovall, Scherb, Dodd Dyson and Charlie Orr. Orr passed Dyson on the first lap then passed Scherb going down the back straightaway on lap tbret:, to come around to another red flag for downed riders in turn 'four. This time the field was lined up for a staggered start with Sweet, Stovall, Scherb, Orr and Huffman in the first five slots. Sweet led into the corner followed closely by Stovall. The two leaders then began to move away from third place Scherb. After the restart it took Orr two laps to pass Scherb again, this time on the inside in the number two corner, moving into the third place slot. He was unable to move away from Scherb, or to catch up with the leaders. The finish of the race was set with Sweet taking the flag ahead of Stovall, Orr and Scherb. • Results 60: 1.
