Some Coloredo motocro. . . . look for 8 line in the Cyclo Ridge mud.
to-back wins for overall cash. Killeen's Dicky Turnbo carv~ his way
into the lead to open the fust moto,
with the Honda of Frank Tello in hot
pursuit. Farmer forced his way past
Tommy Pavelka and Tello on the
second lap as Turnbo's lead mounted.
With three laps remaining, Pavelka
put the move on Tello w~th a rather
risky pass over a rough Jump. 'I?e
order appeared set after that, wuh
Turnbo far and away in first, Farmer
second and Pavelka third,
.
But, with less than a lap reIDaming, everybody got to move ur one
place as Turnbo stalled out 0 contention. "There was a narrow groove
in the back section in one of the turns
and it kept getting deeJXI: and deeper.
I wasn't tired, I guess I Just let uP. a
little bit. I jammed my front wheel in
the sand and that was it," Turnbo
explained later. That I~t Turn~
with the prospect of havmg to wm
the second molO, with Farmer lc.no.wing that third or beuer would net him
the overall cash.
Pavelka still had a shot at the
money and he and Farmer elbo~ed
one another with vigor in the first
turn of heat two. Farmer outboxed
Pavelka and Turnbo and went roaring away. Turnbo was aU set to make
a do-or-die irtside maneuver <;>n Te~lo
when Tello highsic;led, leavmg him
sprawled in a heap beside the track.
Turnbo turned up the wick ~n the
last laps, ripping by P.avelka 10 the
process. Farmer had bUilt a huge.l~d
while all the squabbling was go1Og
on behind him and was in no danger
from Tumbo'scbarge. Farmer coasted
past the flag ahead of T~f'!lbo and
Pavelka to close out an exclung set ~f
motos. Crash victims Tello and Bill
Kelley, though thoroughly shaken,
were ambulatory by the end of. the
venue, fortunate to have S~rvlved
another rough and tumble mght of
motocross. Farmer pocketed first place
money, Pavelka was runner:up, ,!nd
Turnbo received money for ftmsh10g
third overall.
