Griffith ended with a dozen points, one more than Ford. Perhaps the biggest surprise of the night was Bakersfield rider Ron Hardin who was a picture of consistency, scoring in each race. Robinson regroups for Auburn win By Jann Houston AUBURN, CA, AUG 5 Buddy Robinson came back to -Auburn for the first time this season tonight, survived a horrifying end-over-end, or better yet, bike-over-rider crash in the Handicap main to come back and win the Scratch main. Taking the lead out of the gate, there was never any doubt who was in the lead. The thrills in this event which put the fans on their feet were between Duane Yarrow and Eddie Ingels. Yarrow, who got past Steve Crawford on the second lap, made it a side-by-side "duet" with Ingels for theremaining laps. At the checkered f)~, which went to Robinson, it was clearly Ingels in second, followed by Yarrow and Crawford. .Backtracking to the Handicap main event, Gary Stewart held the lead for the first three laps, followed by Bart Bast and Steve Elstins. Tom Ferris was down and out in the first lap, leaving Paul Orlandi and Robinson riding hard behind the leading duo. In turn two on lap four Robinson, who was just about to make his move from the outside, was suddenly off the bike and somersaulting in the air; aSilhe bike was end over end a few feet awayllt was a heart stopperl At this point Bast took the lead as Orlandi moved into second, and Stewart dropped to third, which was the finish. According to Robinson, he went wide, losing control as he attempted to avoid Tom Ferris, who had decided that lap [our was a good time to leave the infield and go on back to the pits. In the Division Two main, David Chaidez got past Brett Flory on the. last lap to take home another Division Two trophy. Flory was second and Rory Rundle third. In the Division Three main, Buddy Robinson's brother in law, Scott Nelson, kept it "all in the family" as he left the races with another trophy, holding the lead for the entire event. Mark Zeissler got past Derek Dorresteyn on the last lap for second and Mark Bergquist was third. In the Juniors, it was Scott Brant again! Darrell Anderson was second and Bobby Hedden was third. • Results SCRATCH MAIN: 1. Buddy Robinson; 2. Eddie Ingels; 3. Duane Yarrow; 4. Steve Crawford. HANDICAP MAIN: 1. Bert BISl; 2.
