He is survived by his wife, one daughter and three sons, two of whom are involved in the motorcycle industry. Bruce Richter owns Richter Industries, a firm that manufactures muffiers, head gaskets and handlebars; and Gary Richter operates Wjleelsmith Maieo and a firm called - Pana-Vise. Services have already been conducted, but condolences may be sent to Mr. Richter, Box G-212, Big Bear Lake, CA 92315. Advence tickets for the Honda Sonoma CIanic, an AMA National roecI race at Sean Point Raceway acheduled for August 21-22, are on sale now at participating northern Califomia Honda dealers. An American Federation of Motorcyclists club event will run at Seara Point on the preceding w . .kend, and Jimmy Filice is expected to make an appearance at thia event on his TZ6oo. Over in England, SWM-mounted Bernie Schreiber won the Kickstart Trial, a produced-for-television stadium event. Defending World Champ Eddy Lejeune (Hon) DNF the event when he got a flat tire and then killed the engine in a water crossing. Going through the water hole, according to reports, Lejeune ran over a poisonous black adder snake, and the event had to be temporarily halted while o({jcials searched for the snake. Three other Americans, Montesa riders Jack Stites and Scott Head, and Fantic pilot Curt Comer, competed in the event but did notqualify for theĀ£inal. Mike Finigan and Patrick Lattimer have drawn the number one starti"9 slot for the September 2 Frontier 600 off-road race, a point-topoint event over the Nevada desert from Las Vegas to Reno. Defending champs Dan Ashcraft and Dan Smith will start 10th. As reported here last week, speedway riders Mike Bast, John Cook and Gene Woods were suspended by the AMA until August 13 as a result of an altercation in the San Bernardino pits July 21. In addition, Bast was fined $500 and Cook and Woods both received $250 fines. Bast had been fined earlier this year for striking Dubb Ferrell on the track. For the first time in nearly two decades, there was a reduction in both motorcycle accidents and fatalities for two consecutive years, 1981 and 1982. Motorcycle accidents decreased by five percent and fatalities declined by six percent. There was a decrease of only one percent in motorcycle registrations, according to statistics collected by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation IMSF), in cooperation with the American Motorcyclist Association lAMA).
