Red romp at Canyon By Pam Hardin PHOENIX, AZ, JULY 9 • 30 In Canyon Raceway's Expert classes this weekend it seemed like the only bike to ride was covered with red and sponsored by SunnyslopeHonda. Their reps have been quietly signing up rbe most consistent riders around the Valley. Out of the top three in WYH9 Jfu9~- pens, all but one were sponsored by them. Lancer's Drey Dircks quickly motored out to rbe lead in the 125's first moto, but was down and out by the fourth lap. Another Lancer rider, Robert Mason, wok over wilh a slight advantage over Sunnyslope's Bobby White. Mason's only disadvantage was a shattered wheel near the halfway point. Jonnie Deremo turned in a consistent ride for second with Mark Lucas keeping Young Cycle's Pat Wing at bay. On the next stan Mason took the reflex award with Deremo behind. White pushed ahead of Wing, and just as quickly displaced Deremo. White jetted up behind Mason and applied heavy pressure. Mason slipped up and White slid by to score a I-I finish. Deremo hal!led in anothe, consistent ,ride for second overall with Wing following behind. The first moto start of the 250cc Experts saw Lancer's Scott Stallard and his Apad1e Honda teammate Todd Kessel out front. Bobby White handled third with Gary Dircks behind. With Stallard in the lead, Kessel pulled off with tire problems, Brett Buckner rode the wheels off his CR to move into fourth and Dircks passed Stallard for the lead and kept it. White pushed past Stallard for second. The next mow had Dircks and White move out to comfortable lead5 with Patterson holding off LOP's Tom Witt for rbird. Results Y ZINGER: 1. Dlvid Gr. .n (ylml; 2. Steve Saling and Jeff Capt left no doubt th.t Eric lives on as they pounded away mow wins. Meanwhile, Jim Hoova displayed Eric's consistency and prllfessional approach for the 250cc Po win. Eric's goal was to become apr<\fessional mOlOcrosser. He dedicate! his life- to training his mind, bod;and soul for that reality. Atl3 yearsd age, that has to be quite an accomplishment. Capt and Saling rode victoriouslY wirb their Eric Cadwell friend5hip ann band5 streaming by their sides. Capt grabbed mow one's win willi style and grace as Saling sailed lo tht mow two win. Dennis Dressler pulled off two consistent third place finishes giving the overall to Saling, Capt and Dressler. The Beginner and Novice divisions set an impressive stage as Russell Clutter and Terry Altman dominated borb Novice mows. Darryl Manning and John Webb finished side by side for the Beginners, and Bob Watson and Adam Conaway jammed to a 1-2 finish for the big bores Novices. Last but not least, the Pros added the day's finishing touches as Andy Jefferson (500cc Pro) led mow one from start lo finish followed by an intense battle between Eric MacCracken and Jim Hoover on 250s, while Jake Roach and Don Hoover, on 2505, also jammed close by. All eyes were on moto two as Jefferson piloted his Pro Circuit Husky to a five-second lead by lap three. A collapsed front wheel dispelled his chances (or even finishing. Hoover and Roam moved into the number one and two positions with Terry Ducker stabilizing in third. Pro placings for the day went to Jim Hoover, Jake Road1 and Terry Ducker. It was a fine day's racing while Eric's mom, Sharon, was presented a perpetual trophy and cash donation fund. Sharon reiterated with strength and spirit, "Eric loved this track and rbe spon of motocross. You all are very dear to me." • R••ult. VET BEG: 1. St...n Comeron; 2. Mike Yoro. VET NOV: 1.
