Chuck Miller has been giving the d..ert compatitlon a thumping for the last two weeks - literally. Miller won the San Gabriel Valley M.C:s District Europaen Scrambles near Barstow, California, then a week later the Simi Valley M.C:s European Scrambles at Red Mountain. As reported in this week's coverage o( the speedway race at Inland Motor Speedway in San Bernarwno, California, John Cook was yanked 0(( his motorcycle and beaten by two other riders. According to AMA Speedway Control Board Representative George Rich, Gene Woods flicked Cook's helmet visor 0(( as he rode £rom the track. Cook then turned around and chased Woods. Mike Bast got involved at that point, and both he and Woods kkked and beat Cook, who had been pulled 0(( his bike. Cook was sore enough after the beating to have a doctor check for injuries. Fortunately, the extent of the injuries was limited to bruises and strained muscles. As we went to press it was learned that the all three riders have been suspended £rom AMA speedway competition until August I!I, fined and put on probation until 1984. Rich said the' reason (or the relatively stiff penalties was to gi ve the riders a message "to clean up their act, both on the track and in the pits." After an absence of ..veral yea,., the Women's Motocroll National is back, scheduled to run October at Saddleback Park in southern California. According to the new promoter, Denise de Vines, the prize list is growing rapidly and already includes a .2000 Pro purse and a Caglva motorcycle. And, according to Oeni.., the awards will be given out by "a couple of hunks from Chlppendales... There will also be a Pit Toot_ Trophy Dash for the guys.
