Neumannals victory at Corona M" By Kit Palmer CORONA, CA, JULY S Yamaha-mounted Jason Neuman captured a very impressive win in the 125cc Intermediate, way after a nail·biting battle with Gre.g Bender (Hon) and Sunwest's Mark Decker. At the start of moto one, Neuman found himself in the lead pursued by Bender, Decker, Keith Morabito (Yam) and Kevin Montgomery (Hon). Mora· bito slipped past Decker, taking over the third position. Even though the top four riders were battling, posi· tions remained the same throughout the moto. Neuman took the win ahead of Bender, Morabito and Decker. Bender stole the holeshot and devel· oped about a three·second lead over Decker and Neuman. As the race progressed, Neuman tried every trick in the book to try to get around Decker, but Decker held his own. With three laps remaining, Neuman made a daring move by passing Decker through the supercross·whoops section. On the last lap, Bender's lead dwindled to only a second over Neuman. Whichever won the second moto would take the overall. Through the double-jump section, Bender stalled his Honda and Neuman actually jumped over Bender and took over the lead. Neuman took the win inches ahead oI Bender. Decker took third followed by Montgomery and Gary Lattimer (Hon). Results PEEWEE: " WealeyKleln(K_t2,BuuMcMlnn (Y.m]; 3, D.n Ilolan (Kewl. The riders got valuable training on that surface, and the one who grabbed first into tum one was often still there at the finish. Scott Rose and Bob Beer ended first and second in a fint 250cc Pro heat that looked pretty wild as Rose led it stan to finish. Randy Bird got through the pack to get a third but just couldn't get by Beer. The second heat saw Dave Ehrhart ' get himself all over the north turn without falling down after arriving there first. The pair then pulled away from the rest of the group. , The 500cc Pros appeared only twice, and were noticeably cooling it in some cases. In their heat, Ross Klatt wasn't; he had' the gas on as Bob Land and Larry Ehrhart chased him. In the main the same trio were out in front after Mearl Barnett led the parade briefly. The procession quickly shook out into Land, Ehrhart and Klatt. Back a bit were the rest of the group led by Barnett, who final~ lost fourth-to Jim Rose. Results 250 COMBO: 1. Shawn Plltti.: 2.
