Mike Larson soared to a fourmoto sweep of the 250 and
Open Pro classes at the Cascade Racing/Labatts Beer
Northwest Motocross. Cbal,
lenge held at Grays Harbor ORV
Park. Jim Anderson took back-lOback wins in the I25cc Pro class.
The Pro races on Sunday capped
off a two-day amateur race in the first.
of this three-race series piuing northwest dealership teams against one
another.
In Open Pro class Larson (Am.
Hon) headed the pack as they rounded
the first comer with Joe Wright (Hon)
in hot pursuit. Coming over the triples, Wright .unloaded, moving Bob
Buf£aloe (Highland Honda) into second with Chris Moritz in third.
Yamaha rider Rick Burgeu, riding
for the Aliki Maico team, missed the
start of the moto and by the time he
got on the track, Larson was well on
his way lo lapping the field. Back in
the pack the baule was on as John
Christian (Totem Lake Honda) was
working his way up from an eighthplace start.
As the end of the molO drew near,
there was no catching Larson; Burraloe seemed secure in second until a
broken wheel put him out of it and
gave second to the hard-charging
Christian. Third wentlO Moritz, with
Arne Heuman (Hon) in fourth.
In molO two Larson again took the
early lead, but this time it was Rick
Burgeu eating at his rear wheel. Moritz
and Hettman were trading spots every
few feet with Christian siuing in fifth
waiting to make his move. Back in
the pack, Buf£aloe was gassing his
480 for all it was worth. Buffaloe was
going for the gold and quickly charged
into third. Then, making a smooth
pass on Burgeu in the woods, he took
over second. Larson again was untouchable, giving him the lion's share
of the loot for his two firsts and the
overall money. Christian took second
overall for his 2-3, Moritz got third
overall for his 3-4. Heuman derailed
a chain, dropping him out of the
overall. Burgeu pulled his spuuering
Yamaha into the pits and ended up in
eighth overall.
The sunshine was drying out the
track and the dust was really building
as the 28 250cc Pro riders roared into
the first turn. Emerging from the
dust cloud were Larson, Anderson,
and Jeff Chapman (Suz). Rob Manning was right there, but pulled orr
after catching a rock in the face. Larson began stretching ou t his lead
with Anderson powering away from
Chapman. The 30-minute mOlOS on
