It was a tight, three man race in the final moto between Tapia, Perez and Mendell. Then the positions started to change around as Perez fell past the big jump and let Mendell advance 'to second place. Tapia came to the stutterbumps and saw Mendell buck his bike over the bumps somewhat faster to takeover the lead. When they came through the finish line it was Mendell, Tapia and Perez. McMahon bauled with top local riders Bryan Maloney, Rob Brown and Ed Arnet, all riding Hondas, en route to his two-moto victory. Brown diced his way to the runner-up slot in the first moto with Maloney third and Arnel fourth. hi round two action, Arnet rode a strong race to pick up second plaCe in the mota and second overall as Maloney DNF and Brown dropped to fourth behind Maico-master Val Tamietti. Brown picked up the third place share of the purse money with fourth going to Tamieui. Suzuki rider Tim Lunde rounded out the top five. . Honda-mounted Bryan Breker won a rough and tumble Open Pro race with a !l-!l score. Yamaha rider Greg Ziuerkopf bauled to the lead in the first mow with Honda pilot Joe Bond placing second. Ziuerkopf DNF the second moto with Maico rider Terry Hobbs taking over the front position as Yamaha rider Darren Oliver and Breker followed to the checkers.
