John Smith (Han). • Anderson claims CMC Saddleback By Tom Corley IR VINE, CA, MAY 29 Form er P ro ri der Mark Anderso n drifted away from the sport in 1980 and has bee n worki ng and back-p acking . This month Anderson is making a co me bac k and is starri ng to race at O CIR and Sad dleback. Wearing an old NorrisRoberts jersey and mounted o n a new Suzuki. Anderson proceeded to win the 500cc Interm ediat e class in Contin en tal Mo tosports C lu b raci ng at Saddl eb ack Park. Da vid C lement took h is Suzu ki to th e victory in the first moto of 500cc Intermedia te racing. Anderson took a mid -pa ck stan a nd worked up to seco nd place a head o f G a ry So wers and Kenny Donelson. The fin al rn o to was m uch more exci ting for Anderson . H e took th e win a nd th e overal l. An derson took a fifth p lace stan. but h e m oved u p to p ass Clement as th ey rounded Webco H ill. Ma tt h ew Zieg ler was the lea der but Anderson soon disposed o f him. It was then Anderson. Clem ent and Zieg ler . . So me confusion came about at the end of the race when the last lap flag was waved not once. but tw ice in front of Anderson. Not knowi ng what to do. Anderson kep t on racing even though it was finish time. A fin e 2-1 tally earned Anderson the overall victory over Clement, Sow ers and Ziegler. Former desert racer J oh n Bosanko hasn't raced in two Years, but returned today to give the 500cc J unior class a good bea ting. The 500cc J u n ior class was let loo se 011 the track with the 250cc Jun iors. and they competed with one anothe r at tim es. In th e first moto Bosanko took th e h o leshot a nd led everyo ne for severa l laps. T he n 250cc Jun ior Kevin Fringer pa st Bosa n ko on a left -h and turn. Bosanko was still tops in h is class.
