MacD o nal d took his win over the la rgest of the three P ro classes, as 27 250cc P ro entrants ball led for the top money and important Gold Cup points. Kell er 's teamma te Mark Ester berg launch ed h is KTM into the overall pic ture by pu rrin g o n a I- I blitz in 250cc Pr o ac tion. In the 125cc P ro class. th e ga te dropped fo r seven co ntesta nts in mot o o ne o n o ne of th e dustiest days o f th e year. Waterin g th e track didn't better th e co ndi tio ns much a t a ll. Ri ch Gunderson led th e field into turn o ne followed by Larry Brurnwell , Wa yne Church a nd Ear le. wh o ga ted dead last , but was soon challengi ng Brumwell for seco nd . Gunderson pulled away a t a blistering p ace an d had it in th e bag until cras h ing o u t. wh ich put Brurnwell into th e lead o ver Earle, who was hounding from beh ind. Brumwell crashed under th e pressure a nd it was Earl e a nd Church to the wire, with the LOP rider winning by a n ose. Mot o two had Church g ra b for th e gusto a nd lead it for two lo ng, dusty laps until both Brumwell and Earle blitzed past. Brumwell wasn 't to be de nied th e win a n d led it a ll th e way to th e flag for the wi n to go with hi s fir st mo to thi rd . Church took a third to also enter th e o vera ll p icture. Kell er used hi s KTM for a tractor in O pen P ro and dug hi s wa y into turn o ne fo llowed by local farm bo y Sk eet H ise, Esterberg, Ben Grabl e an d Dave Beck . Kell er wa s smoking th e field a t a fast , fur ious pace, followed by Hi se. Kell er bailed off on th e in credibl y ro ugh track which put Esrer burg, wh o had p assed Hise earlier . into th e lead and Kell er in the third spot behind Hi se. Kell er worked to seco nd a nd o n th e last lap made his move o n teammat e Esterberg o ver the fin ish line tow er jump. Grabl e was founh in th e mot o , Beck fifth . During th e seco nd tim e o u t th e track had been wa tered. ca usi ng some migh ty slick spots. but it took o n ly 15 mi n u tes for th e 85 0 h eat 10 dry it up.
