JUNE 2 California Senate Bill 158. the measure introduced by Senator Alan Robbins to delay implementation of new emission standards for motorcycles over 280cc, was passed by the State Assembly by a vote of 63-2. The bill is now before Governor George Deukmejian for his signature or other action. SB 158 will delay for one year the emissions standards set last year by the California Air Resources Board . The standards would have required that many larger street models be equipped with potentially dangerous catalytic converters. The one-year delay will give the motorcycle industry a chance to petition C.A.R.B. again and argue for a different solution before new board members. Deukmejian has not yet indicated his plans on the measure. so it is important to write to the governor and urge that he sign the bill into law. Deukmejian can be written to at the State Capitol. Sacramento. CA95814. In other Sacramento news, SB156, the Green Stickie repayment bill. passed the Senate Finance Committee on a 9-0 vote and moved to the floor of the Senate. By the time this issue hits the stands, it is expected that the bill will have passed the Senate and moved on to the Assembly. Write your Assemblyman at the address given above. Another attempt has been made to divert funds from the Green Stickie Fund. The Assembly version of the state budget bill contains a $2 million provision for a park in the district of Assemblyman Terry Goggin (D-Fontana). which has nothing to do with off-highway vehicles but is to be paid for by cancelling $2 million on state OHV projects, including Hungry Valley and Ocotillo Wells budgets. 2 Andre Malherbe (Hon) took over the point lead in the World Championship 500cc MX Series with a 5·1 day in Finland on Sunday, June 5.
