- Sammy Potter took the Devil's Bowl Expert f eat ure. for a 23. l3-second fast time. earning himself $200 from Harley-Davidson of North Texas. Po tter a lso took the first Expert heat all the way. fo ll owed by P h ill ip Culver and Odell Davis. The second heat proved to be a real thriller as Duan e Du vall led R usty Gourley and Bu bba R ush into the first turn. Gourley's bike quit, however . and Charlie Orr came charging through to take the lead. Orr and jeff Narramore the n staged an inside/outside ba ttle for th e lead all the way to th e fi n ish that Narra more came o ut o n top of. Ru sh wa tche d th e show fro m hi s th ird-p lace van tage poi nt . In th e tro phy da sh , Potter a nd Orr staged a n intens e ba tt le for th e lead . By tak ing th e win in a n a lmos t p ho to fin ish , Potter took home $300. The Ex pert ma in began with Narramore leading Potter , Ru sh a nd Duval l. However . o n la p two . Orr came from nowhere to third. With th in gs not th e lea st bit sett led on th e third la p , th e order was Po tter . Narramore, Orr, G o urley, C u lver and Scott Ad a ms. In th e fo llowin g laps th e big battle was for seco nd between Narra more a nd O rr . H ow ever , Adams was o n th e move, and was up wit h th e leaders by th e sixth lap. Then G ourley starte d slippi ng back. On th e whi te flag lap Narram ore was running in seco nd, but in a wi ld fin ish th e fin al orde r wa s Potter . Ada ms, Narramore and G ourley. The junior m ai n began with Shon Stovall grabbin g th e lead . but Du nca n push ed hard for th e p oint position. ta kin g it on the seco nd lap a nd never looking back . Stovall was jo in ed by j o hn j ohnson in a fiscu ssion centerin g on the occu pancy o f seco n d p lace as R usty Miskovski ran fourth. The Stovall / j o h nson duel lasted to th e finish as Duncan ran o u t front to esta blis h a straig h ta way's lead. At the fini sh it wa s Stovall with th e runnerup p lacin g. T he Novice main had th e cro wd o n its feet from lap o ne to th e ch eckered flag. Da lla s' Du a ne Du va ll was first into turn one, o n ly to have Chris Carr tak e th e first la p lead. T hey swa p ped it back a nd forth three times in th e fir st four la ps w hi le Rich ard Witte a nd Dan McCo nn ell d iced for third. T he cro wd was sti ll u p whe n th e lead ers ca me down to th e fin ish , a nd it was Carr takin g th e win by a wh eel for h is third victory in as man y da ys.
