Hill, Carr split Archie Clark Memorial By Bill Spencer Lam, CA, MAY 15 Nearly 100 riders from central and northern California, plus a few Oregonians, were on hand for the 17th annual Archie Clark Mem orial short track and scra m bles co mbo that helped pa y some heavy medical bills for Mike Bird, son of Honda-Yamaha deal er Dave Bird . Mike lost part of a leg in an accident las t year, but was up and a ro u nd a t th e races and enjoyed th e action. Aaron Hill and Chris Ca rr took all th e big wins in the Expert classes, with Hill beating out Carr in th e 250cc Expert cla ss in fine racing form . In the big bike 500cc class it was Danny McDonnell that was doing the Hill chasing, with Carr unable to find a wa y around the two fou rstrokes on his Jorgy Can-Am 370. In th e co m bi ned 250/500cc Expert scrambles, Carr had th e best of th e fro nt brak es and rode h is T V Service Center, ND-sparked Ca n-Am to the fro nt and won over Joe Knight and Hill. Bryan McDowell made it two for two in probabl y hi s last Nov ice rac e, taking both ST and TT portions of th e 250cc class, with Robbie Blagg second in the sh ort track and win ning the l25cc TT. Winkie Freitas was tops in the 125 and 250cc sho rt tra ck events, holding off Blagg, who ca me from Central Point, Ore., for the races and is a former Min i nation al champion. Bill y T aylor a nd Dana Douglas fought it o ut behind Freitas for th e other 250cc tro p hies.
