Dick Burly went into th e lead and stayed th ere for three laps. Then Gabe Guti errez took over for two laps until George Spearing slipped by. He kept th e acti on to himself for nine more laps to tak e th e win. Burley powered in wit h seco n d. The seco nd moto began again with Burley o u t in front via a ni ce hol eshot, but Speari n g quickl y took over an d led for four laps, However , it was Don Merr itt who cro ssed over th e finish line first.' Burley follow ed with seco nd. Expert Danny Drew was faster th an a ll th e o ther Exp ert s a nd he raced away, laking both firsts. Ed Sch eidler's Yamaha went pretty fast also,and zipped a ro und for two seco n d-p lace wins. Al Sm ith was ano ther win ner with hi s two third-place win s. Am at eur J im Learnihan put h is KTM into th e lead for six laps a nd looked lik e a winne r in th a t class, bu t h is bike was slo wed by mech anical s, event ua lly for cing h im out o f th e co mpeti tio n. Gordan Ma th ieu th en was o ut in front and he led thi n gs fo r six laps u nti l Bob Kla tt felt th e power a n d gassed by Mat h ieu and won the moto two laps later. The second moto was Bo b Kla tt 's from start to fi nis h, despite Mathieu's ever-near presence. Dale Brockett led 14 other Novices to the checkered both tim es for th e overa ll win. Fred Maynard, riding a Honda, came in wi th second followed by George McCau ley in thi rd and Oren Spa hn in fourt h. Dick Feuel did so me fa st traveling from a m id p ack p osition to a seco nd pl ace fin ish .
