England floats win in Poole By John Hipkiss ENGLAN D, MAY 4 England gained sweet revenge . at Poo le Speed way, for it was ' here last year that the Ame ri cans wo n the 1982 test .series , This time, however, right from when the tapes went up in heat one, the British showed true determination, winni ng 63-45 to take a 2-1 lead in the series . H opes were high in the American camp that they cou ld re~at last year's performance, even without World Champion Bru ce Penhall , but the points just weren't co m ing th eir way. Captain Bobby Schwanz suffered an engine failure in th e fir st ride, and Eng la nd took an eight-po int lead after two heats. That was in creased to 10 points a t th e halfway stage, a nd thoug h the Ameri can s fought hard, th ey on ly raced to four h eat wins, and . England had wrapped the meeting up with fo ur hea ts to go. By race fo urteen the score stood at 51-33. T he return of John Cook sadly made little difference as he was obviously off form and only ret urned two points. Lance King also scored a low six points just as he seemed to be raking in the points in the British League. It was good to see that Kelly Moran had returned from California for th e rest of the series and he shared top U.S . points honors along with Dennis Sigalas. both posting I I .
