Abo ut one -fourt h o f th e way arou nd th e track was a h ighberm ed gO -degree tu rn th at was super soft an d responsible for ma ny drama tic cha nges in position . J erry An ker was th e first Pro to feel th e b ite o f the killer turn . H e sliced h is C EET Yama ha in to th e lead o f the fir st 125cc P ro m o to righ t off th e start an d starte d to pull a wa y from Robert Laughlin a nd Rog er Hen sley. On lap two, An ker fell victim to th at turn a nd was back in m id-pack befor e h e co u ld reco ver. Hen sle y' took adva ntage o f th e jam to grab fir st by stuffing h is Lan caster Yam aha in side Laugh li n o n th e next turn. Th is is H en sley's back yard a nd h e wa s in th e lead to stay . Laughlin griml y hung o n to seco nd. By lap four, Randy Yett o o n a Yamaha from Barnes Yamaha o f Bar stow had m oved u p to th ird a nd .spe ru th e rest o f th e race tryin g to get by Laughl in . An ker got th e h olesh ot o n mo to two , but Hen sley was on a ro ll a nd method icall y moved fro m fourth to thi rd to seco nd an d took th e lead o ne turn befor e the scori ng stati on. An ker stayed in seco nd for th e moment but Jim P appe was bl itzin g h is wa y through the pack and was up to thi rd before th e m iddle of lap two . Pappe was reall y pressurin g Anker on lap three wh en Anker went down hard. H e got up but hi s bike d idn 't an d he DNF th e day. Yetto decided to try th e Pappe blitz and mov ed up rap idly to h ar ass Pappe for th e next fo ur laps. He was getting so much air he alm os t landed on Pappe co m in g o ff th e big jump. That san d trap turn was next a nd Yetto passed -Pap pe th ere. His n ext target was Hensley an d he go t him a bo u t a quart er lap before th e scor er s. H en sley retook th e lead jus t before th e white flag and th e two flew ou t for th e last lap. This time it wa s H ensley's turn to wat ch Yett o scoot by in the sa nd tra p . Nagle took th e ear ly lead with Sta llar d weeding through th e p ack to ta ke over, for a wh ile. On th e six th lap, th e co m p ressio n in h is rear sh ock went away, a n d he cruised th e rest o f th e m ot o . Nagle had th e win with Bru ce Peter s p u ll ing in a co nsistent seco nd. Tom Witt, fourth in series points, took third, foll owed by Brett Buckner . With Stallard 's bik e problems and Nagle's win, th e cham p io nsh ip rested on th e o utcome of th e last mot o. In sp ite of th e water mai n th ey put ri ght through th e middl e of th e sta rt ing lin e. In sp ite o f th e rain and flooding that ca used one week to be cance lle d. And this week, th e rain ca me in th e m iddle of th e first mo to and wouldn 't let up, ca us ing th e ca ncella tion of th e seco nd ro u n d of racing . In sp ite of a ll o f th e hassles,"over 200 riders have turned up eac h week. After bein g sp ared from moisture a ll day wh il e it came down in th e rest of so ut h ern California , a light rain . began just as th e Pros took to th e track. The rain cont inued h arder without a break. After th e first moto a rider 's meeting was h eld to see if the racers wanted to keep racing or to score the results off th e fir st moto finish es. The riders sai d th at they did not wi sh to go ou t on th e slic k track, so th e first moto results becamefinal. Maico West rider Micky Dymond took home th e 250cc Pro win in a very exci ting race. Veteran Pro Dave T aylor brought h is H onda out o f the start ing ga te first wit h Dymond and Danny Barthol omew d ose behind. Todd Peterson had a weak start and was last o ut of th e first turn, but .Io urth after the first lap. On the seco n d lap Bartholomew went down hard in the wh oo ps and bent hi s forks. Still tryi ng to race , he found th at he lost most of h is steer in g in th e co rners a fter th e bi g jump a n d wen t off one turn and landed in th e stu tterbumps. Peterson mov ed to third an d was pressuring Dym ond. But Dymond, who is th e onl y 250cc Pro to regularly double his way through the whoops, used h is jumping to keep Peterson beh ind. On th e third lap, Dym ond doubleju mped hi s way past Taylor and into th e lead. Brian Maloney, anoth er Pro wi n n er at OCIR this year , broke a frame on ' th is lap. On th e next lap Pet erson used th e in side of th e hairp in turn to gai n posit ion an d pass T aylor.
