There was a fairl y spec tac u la r crash in th e sideca r cla ss as th e rig of J o h n Wi ldman / Ri ck Davidson flipped co m ing out of th e esses when David so n lost hi s grip, parting co m pa ny with hi s partner, Wildman will reco ver from hi s dama ged shou lde r, but the rig was pronounced a write-off wi th a tot all y tras hed frame. This wa s th e rid ers 'last chance to qualify for th e ser ies fin al, and th e ra cin g wa s intens e. Ste ve Vlahos showed h is ta lent as h e scored a I -I vict ory in the 125cc Expert class. Vlahos bo lted into th e lead in the first turn and held first for eigh t la ps a nd the win. Ed Minton a nd Spoo f Pen a diced it out for seco nd , but bot h were a ced out by Peta lum a H on da s' Da ve Coupe. T he seco nd rnoto, Min ton pulled th e holesh ot , but was soon overtaken by Vlahos. Randy Chapman held a tight third p lace until the halfwa y mark wh en Coupe took th e seco nd at a t the checkered . Yamaha Support rider J im Ellis a n n ih ila ted a 250c;c Expert field o f 19 rid ers and took th e checkered first with 25 seconds 10 spare. Ellis grabbed the holeshot foll owed by Jon Nelson and Dorene Pa yne (wea ring a pa ir of p ink lea th ers) in thi rd .
