The on lv rider who was a threat to the leader was Ro n Lawson (H on) . In both motos Lawson managed to pressu re Dimmitt in th e ea rly stages o f th e race . but by th e m id-way point. Dimmitt managed to stret ch hi s lead to a comfortable margin. Lawson took second ove ra ll follow ed by F, Buchel i (Suz) and Steve Bol ey (Ya m }. In an I I-r id er ' 250 cc Pro cl a ss, Suzuki of Ri verside's Eddie Michelli (Suz) ca p tu red the win with a 2-1 tally. Michetti jammed in to the lead a t th e sta rt of moto one in ches ahead of T orco 's Andy Kirker (H on) , Malcolm Smith 's Mark Anderson (Yam) and Greg Na sh (Hon) . For th e next 12 laps Mi chetti h eld o n to hi s lead, but by th e 13th lap, Na sh worked hi s way up through the field and pass ed Mich etti for th e lead. Nash went o n to take th e win . Mich etti took second followed by Anderson. Danny Barth ol oman (Yam) a nd Pedro Macia , Mich ett i again shot to th e front o f th e pack at the start of mot o two ahead o f Jack Scott (H o n). By th e fourth lap, Nash found him sel f in seco nd. hot o n Mich eui's tra cks. A la p lat er. Nash slip ped-up and dropped back to fourth beh in d Scott and Anderson, It took Nas h three la ps before he had regained seco nd. H ow ever. Nash went dow n agai n droppi ng back (0 six th . For th e rem ain in g five laps. Anderson began to put some pressure on th e leader. Michetti kept his grip and held o n for th e win. Anderson took .secon d foll ow ed by Bartholoman , Macia an d Keith Dysert (Hon ). Results 42 possessed for four la ps. Tarni eui passed Gordon Smith (Hon ) in th e second lap to grab second, and held McCracken 's pace, As McCr acken's shock started to misbehave, Tamietti gained ground. In the seventh lap, with Tarnieui right on hi s fender. McCracken's front tire went flat. Throwing h is hands up in disgust , he let Tarnietti by, and dropped out on the next lap. Terry Hobbs (Mai ) finished a distant seco nd. and Tedder rounded out th e top three. Woody Carlson (Yam) holeshot th e. first moto of the 250cc Pros. Tamietti grabbed third. behind Robert " Robot" Rogers (H on) . Beh ind him Pete Murray (Ma i) a n d Don Turk (H o n ) went do wn in the first turn . Turk was up in a flash an d made amazi ng progress to ge t back in the race. Tamietti slipped p ast Rogers in the second lap. but cou ldn 't catch Car lson. Wh en Honda rider David Hopwood's front tire went flat on th e ninth lap. Turk pa ssed him for fourth. The gutsy H opwood finish ed a nywa y. coming in 10th. SCOll Sarge nt (Suz) landed third. The second moto featured a Hopwood ho leshot, followed by Carlson, Turk and Tarnieui. No one co u ld catch H op wood . who built a huge lead by th e seco nd la p . On th e sevent h lap Tarnietti slid by Turk o n th e dusty track to fin ish third. Hopwood breezed home with an easy win. The I25cc Pro class was won handily by Ran dy Yett o (Ya m). who led from the start in th e first moto. After a fu ll seaso n o f fas t a nd furious motocross racing. on ly one point Honda-mounted Larry Dim mi tt conti nued to domi nate the 250cc In term edia te class today as he ran away with a two-rnoto victory a t DeAnza Cycl e Park. Dimmitt seems to have mastered the new . rough and cha llengi ng Doug Hall-prepped race tra ck . The Honda pilot shot into the lead at the start o f both rnotos and then proceeded to separa ted North from the second place schoo l of Cerritos. 501·500. Tonight a t Corona Ra ceway was the last rac e of the championships. Third went to Upland with 39-1 points while Arlington finished in fourth with 319. Some of North's workhorses were Scott Bums. APR . 14 Track conditions at Orange County International Racewa y this week were drier than the last two, but by no means dusty and th e lap tim es proved to be th e quickest o f th e season. With th e West Coast MX Nationals over, most of the 125cc Pros went back home. leavi ng Team Green's Tracy Meeks to take th e win in the four-rider cla ss, Harley Hall rod e hi s best race o f th e year en rout e to th e 250cc Pro win. And 16yea r-o ld Scott Sargen ca p tu red hi s seco nd Open Pro win in as many weeks. At th e sta rt of th e first 250cc Pro moto Hall took h is H onda through the tight first turn ahead of th e pack. Craig Cable a nd Lance Mason were close behind. Micky Dymond stu ffed his front tire between th e forks and frame of Todd Peterson's Yamaha an d by th e tim e th e pair were free the y were far beh ind. Sin isal o-supported Hall a nd Cable pulled away from th e pack and went into a fierce battle for th e lead . Hall kept his cool a nd held off Cable's repeated attempts 10 pass. Meanwhi le Dymond and Peterson were slicing their way through the ranks. Peterson ran into th e rough on the third lap and went fl ying o ff his bike. Though stunned. he was up soon but farth er behind. Dymond was using every line he could invent to make up time and eventua lly finished fifth , Tay lor Marcell. another rider with a poor start. managed to
